Creepy Pick-Up Lines

The last time Krista came over, we found a bunch of creepy pick-up lines that had us laughing our heads off or ewwing in disgust. XD Most of these take creepy to a whole new level, lol.

3.5 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

I really enjoyed this book because of the mystery and the intrigue and the romance and the ending. Man, the ending... Right when you thought that you had the book figured out, Michelle Hodkin decided to add a cliffhanger that completely destroyed everything that you thought was true. An almost complete mindfuck.

However, I had a problem with Noah in the beginning. Why do girls always fall for the assholes? I just--don't even. I mean, sure, Noah's smug arrogance and Mara's snappy retorts made for great banter in the beginning, and Noah eventually made up for his asshole-ness later in the book for everything that he does for Mara, but still. He has a reputation for sleeping with the whole female population at school and she still falls for him so easily in the beginning, no matter how much she denied it.

The plot was pretty original, and the author's writing was great. The words flowed so easily and gracefully, and the foreshadowing one-liners had me riveted to the book.

Is there an audiobook for this book? If so, is the reader male? Because I'd love to hear Noah's British accent. :D

Cool Stuff: Water Splashes

*sigh* Today was one of those days. You know, those off days that you occasionally have when bad things usually occur. Today wasn't that bad, but it still wasn't that great either. :P

I knew that I was tired because I was sleeping around midnight again, but I also started my period in fourth period and had to go to the front office to get a pad since no on in class had one. Luckily, I ran into Emily while I was walking down there and she gave me one, so I didn't have to go all the way to the front office after all. 

And I had no idea what to do in first period when we were working on our practice FRQ questions, which totally sucked since the real thing is tomorrow and Friday. But, I didn't have Physics today since today was the Econ EOCTs, so my class was relocated in Mrs. Grange's room, so I saw her twice today, and I studied Calc in there. 

The rest of this week is going to be stressful. I have tests in my AP classes for the rest of the week and a Physics test tomorrow, too. Luckily, I don't think that I'm going to have much homework because of the tests,  but yeah, this Friday's the last day to put grades in (I think), so teachers have been giving us tests and assignments to see if we can exempt next week's finals. So far, I only have to take my Calc final on Wednesday morning. I really hope that I don't have to take anything else so I can sleep in and do whatever. :)

Now I have to go study! Such joy... not. :P

Well, today wasn't that bad for a Monday. I actually went to bed early (which was around 11, and I've been going to bed around 12-2 AM lately, so that was a vast improvement, lol), so I wasn't really tired! :D

And I did my Semester Project Presentation in Engineering, and it didn't turn out to be too horrible although I forgot some of the info over the weekend. :P My pictures made people laugh, so it was all good. :3 And Tyler promised to get me three chocolate bars for Christmas if I got him three cans of whipped cream, lol.

And now I must go remember how to find tangent lines using implicit differentiation for Calc and learn about momentum and something or another in Physics. Such joy. :P

But before I do, that last paragraph reminded me of something that Mrs. Staines told us earlier today. Usually, a person really likes math and science or history and literature because of the way they think. Either you need to know the definite answer or you like the vague answers that could be anything.

That made me wonder which type of person I am. I like math and I like literature. I hate how there's so many different answers to one question in books and yet I also hate how there's only one answer in math. Actually, I take that back, I like that there's only one answer in math since I would know that I'm either right or wrong. I guess I'm a math person after all. :P

So, enjoy the pics while I suffer through Calc. :P

Audiobooks :D

I always thought that audiobooks weren't for me because, well, I thought that it'd be like how I listen to music when I'm multitasking, which ends up becoming background noise while I do everything else. Since the only time I would be able to listen to audiobooks is when I'm multitasking, I didn't think that I would be able to pay attention to the story. 

I was wrong.

I went on Audible the other day (when I was supposed to be working on an essay... >__>) to hear samples of audiobooks of books that I had already read just to hear how the narrators would sound, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I was still paying attention to the narrator even though I was reading and looking at other things online at the same time. :D

Soooo, I'm going to give audiobooks a try! I've already downloaded some, and I still have an audiobook that I won a while ago. I just need to stop procrastinating so that I can have some time to listen to them. :)

But you should definitely try out the audiobook of Where She Went by Gayle Forman. The narrator's voice is definitely close to what I imagined Adam to sound like! Actually, I think they used his voice in the book trailer, too... 

And, you should listen to the audiobook of Getting the Girl by Marcus Zusack. The narrator has an Austrailian accent! You know how much I love listening to accents! XD

If you want an Australian girl as a narrator, I suggest you listen to Tomorrow, When the War Began by John Marsden. Not only does she have an awesome accent, but the book's friggin amazing. 

I can't think of any YA books that would be British... :(

Anyway, I have to go. I need to go to the mall and find a nice blouse for my scholarship interview tomorrow. D: On the bright side, I might be getting an awesome pair of headphones from FYE since they're having a sale on them right now. :D

Argh, the prejudice and unfair treatment because of their age and mixed heritage really ticked me off. And Cynthe really annoyed me in the beginning because of her pride and indignation was too much most of the time. Also, I think that they should have had younger models used for the book's cover. They don't look anywhere near the age of 13, which is how old Diello and Cynthe are.

Reading this book left me in an indescribable mood that I usually have after reading a book that I'm not even sure if I liked it or not. :\

MY REVIEW:

This book always elicited two reactions from me whenever I read it: intense drowsiness or immediate disinterest in which I would start daydreaming after reading the first sentence.

Marlow's narrative of his journey to find Kurtz, the egnimatic man whose power of speech was amazing that he had heard so much about on the way, was interesting, eloquently told and full of profound insights that I usually liked.

However, even that couldn't stop me from reading the whole book in a drowsy daze because of the writing style. Heart of Darkness quickly reminded me of my dislike of super long paragraphs.

1 STAR - I DIDN'T LIKE IT

MY REVIEW:

I did not like this book, which is why I couldn't finish it. However, I'm still not sure if I should rate this book as two stars instead of one.

I mean, The Healer's Apprentice isn't terrible -- it's just stale and predictable, making it impossible for me to continue reading. The characters aren't original at all; they're stale, 2D characters that you could find in any book. You've got the poor but beautiful heroine with a heart of gold, the honorable prince, and his younger brother who's a player trying to change his way, all stuck in a love triangle. Unless there's some huge plot twist near the end, I could already see how the book was going to be like.

Nothing stood out to me in this book.

I'd recommend it to anyone who's a fan of historical fiction who has nothing else to read.
