MY REVIEW:

If you couldn't tell from the summary, this is a MTL book. However, it's pretty easy to understand, so I definitely recommend it! Plus, it's pretty short and funny. Just enough to entertain you for an evening or two.

I loved all of the different ways Ye Moli constantly tried to find reasons to make Ji Mengchen and his family break up with her. His family's group chat are were also hilarious. This was a fun, entertaining book!

As a last resort, He Mianmian decided to save He Wenchuan and indirectly save herself. One of the most effective methods is to destroy the alliance between He Wenchuan and the black female partner.

Concept: Change tragedy and create new life

2 STARS - IT WAS OKAY

MY REVIEW:

This was also a MTL novel, but it's also pretty easy to read. This is definitely not recommended for everyone though.

The brother is probably the most overbearing horndog male lead I've read so far. I was not a big fan in the beginning with how pushy he was and was debating on quitting the novel. However, I wanted to see how she would fall for him and kept on reading. Overall, it was an okay read. If you're into the domineering, overbearing male lead types, then this book is up your alley.

Title: Everyday I Get Up To See The Villain Stealing The Show
Author: Zhong Xiaosheng
Chapters: 110 chapters
Publication: 2014
Summary from Novel Updates:

The wrong way to act as a villain no.1: Get rid of the protagonist while he still hasn’t become powerful.

The wrong way to act as a villain no.2: Take the limelight from the protagonist at the key moment.

The wrong way to act as a villain no.3: Make the protagonist fall in love with you, thus making him incapable of completing the final step – eliminating the major villain.

Han Changsheng, Head of the Demonic Cult, is the major villain who’s employed all three incorrect methods.

—————

As the leader of the first Demonic Cult in the underground world of martial arts and cultivation, Tianning Cult, Han Changsheng carried on the long-standing tradition of an unstable mind and a refusal to seek any treatment.

Originally, his life should have passed by quickly and simply, but one day he kicked a descended Immortal Lord off a cliff. In order to make up for this mistake, he must aid the Immortal Lord in ascending back to his position… but why does this mistake keep growing? Hey, Lao zi doesn’t need you as a younger brother, you should look for An Yuan! Don’t chase after Lao zi, you’re destined to be An Yuan’s wife! Don’t worship Lao zi as a martial arts lord, lao zi is the genuine leader of the Demonic Cult! Hey, Hey Lao zi is obviously the major villain! What the hell are you doing?!

4 STARS - I REALLY LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

This was such a fun novel! It's so hard for a villain to maintain his cult leader reputation lmao. Who knew one mistake would lead to such disastrous results. And poor An Yuan kept on getting led around by his nose because of Han Changsheng's various plans.

Kpop Appreciation: Gaho, TXT, Hyoyeon, Stray Kids, Lisa

Wow, can't believe my last Kpop Appriciation post was last year! I've been slacking in keeping up with Kpop for the past couple of months. I just found out that my usual Kpop subscription on YouTube was unsubscribed, so I haven't received any notifications on new music videos for a while.

I've been a casual fan of Gaho for a while but hadn't heard of any of his recent activities until I heard his awesome live rock cover of Rose's "On the Ground" a few months ago. It was just so good! I loved the whole vibe and his vocals! The slow buildup, the bass, the high notes! *Chefs kiss*

Then, he came out with his new single, "Ride", last month, which was also really good! It's another rock-themed song, which compliments his voice so well! I just really like his voice lol.

Onto more rock songs (which is pretty rare for Kpop groups), I listened to TXT's new song "LO$ER=LO♡ER" and immediately fell in love with it. I don't know anything about the group other than the fact that they're BTS's younger labelmate brothers, but I like most of their title songs whenever I hear them. However, I was surprised that they'd come out with a rock-themed title song this time! But it's so good, and the chorus is so catchy! My first impression was that this was like the energetic rock response of Big Bang's "Loser" lol.

I listened to a couple of songs from their new album, and I really like the rock vibe that they have going on! I will pay more attention to their music going forward. :)

Hyoyeon also recently had a new single out, "Second", featuring Bibi, who is also one of my fav female solo artists. I really like her voice and tone. Hyoyeon's singles are usually more focused on her DJing skills instead of her vocals, so I liked how this song was focused on her singing. The part where Bibi and Hyoyeon are together was a scene of two girl bosses together that I didn't know I needed lol.

Also, Hyoyeon really hasn't aged. She looks the same as when she first debuted.

Can't not talk about Stray Kids in this post! After they won Kingdom: Legendary War, Shelle and I have been anticipating their comeback, and they didn't disappoint! They released so many teasers of all of their album songs leading up to their comeback date, so the anticipation was really high!

"Thunderous" was so good! The song and performance actually sounded similar to their stages from Kingdom, so I liked how they took the lessons they learned from Kingdom and incorporated it into their comeback. Let's talk about the high intensity song, the group choreography, the elaborate sets, the fabulous outfits, the special effects! Everything was so good! They've been winning weekly music awards since the album was released, which speaks volumes about their growth.

I also really liked "Sorry, I Love You" on their album. It's a really nice song about a one-sided love. Also, you get to hear Felix sing in his deep voice!

Lisa also recently released her first single album! This has been hyped for the past couple of months, and for good reason! "Lalisa" was freaking great! Lisa is definitely my favorite member of BlackPink, so I was excited for her album. The song is so empowering! I loved the Thai scene and her message "from Thailand to Korea, and now here, went for the throat". I still can't get over the fact that she has a lot of haters because just she's Thai. She's so hardworking and cute! How can you hate her?!

Also loved that the police have Polisa on their uniforms lol. Anyway, the song is super catchy with a great message, and the music video is also great, so check it out!

Mini Reviews: Holding Onto My Man; Villain’s Sick Beauty Sister; If I Don't Do It, I Will Die

Title: Holding Onto My Man
Author: Hong Yao Yao
Chapters: 109 chapters + 1 extra
Publication: 2018
Summary from Novel Updates:

After an accidental death, in order to continue to live, Gu Bai had to choose to go through various wonderful books to complete tasks.

Every time he became a variety of small cannon fodder inside the story, Gu Bai’s code of conduct when completing task is – by all means, don’t be inferior, don’t be shameless, don’t be upright… hold on to a golden thigh.

… N times after transmigrating

Cannon fodder: (angry contempt) … You’re already so powerful, why are you still shamelessly holding on to a golden thigh to deal with us!?

Gu Bai: (deadpan) That… holding and holding… got used to it…

3 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

Because each arc was pretty short, there was a lot of plot holes, especially in the beginning. However, if you suspend your belief a few times when Gu Bai follows through on his plans, then it's a pretty entertaining story as he fulfills the original owners' wishes. The imperial palace arc was really funny because of his body's instinctual reactions lmao. Gu Bai's emotional growth and overall storyline was also an interesting mystery that slowly unraveled.

Title: Villain’s Sick Beauty Sister
Author: 雾下菘
Chapters: 85 chapters
Publication: 2019
Summary from Novel Updates:

Lu Nian transmigrated into the book, through the story she became a sickly woman with inconsequential role in the plot.

The Eldest lady of the wealthy Lu family the poor and sick beauty Lu Nian, the little cannon fodder who died within a few chapters in the original plot, but unfortunately, in order to assist the eldest lady, the Lu family took back a fake brother from the orphanage when she was young. His name is Elder brother, in fact, he is the servant of the eldest lady. He has a low status in the Lu family and is as humble as a dog. Anyone can beat and scold him.

Once Lu Nian transmigrated, she saw the pale and handsome young man stepped under her feet in front of her. His eyes were gloomy and cold, staring at her not far away. Lu Nian shivered when she heard his name. Qin Si?

Isn’t this what the last biggest villain in the book looked like when he was a teenager?

The last man in power of the Lu family was cold and uncaring, vicious, and overwhelmingly powerful. He took revenge one by one for the crimes he suffered when he was young, and he almost ended up with the male protagonist.

She was so scared to death that she decided to treat him well in her next limited life, hoping that he would save at least one dog’s life after he blackened.

Qin Si never thought that one day he would be able to receive the gentleness from her fingers.

The delusion that secretly grew, once came true, as long as she looked at him more and smiled at him, he could do nothing and give her life.

2 STARS - IT WAS OKAY

MY REVIEW:

This is similar to Guide To Raising the Sick Villain and Devil's Warmth where the main girl knows the terrible ending of the male lead and therefore tries to help him throughout their childhood and teenage years.

There's a lot of misunderstandings due to miscommunication or lack of communication, which I can understand. A lot of the time, it was like they were both having two separate conversations with each other due to their differing thoughts about the situation. Qin Si due to his low self-esteem and insecurity and Lu Nian due to her knowledge of the future.

However, I was more irritated with Lu Nian's naivety and overall lack of awareness. There were so many obvious clues about the family mystery, and her dad's plans with her and the Zhao brothers were blatantly obvious to everyone EXCEPT for her. Her passiveness just really annoyed me.

I wanted to quit reading the book, but I was already 2/3 through and felt like I should just continue to see if it got better. Luckily, their relationship got better and most of the misunderstandings were resolved, which was probably the best part of the book.

Title: If I Don't Do It, I Will Die
Author: 龟缩世界
Chapters: 95 chapters
Publication: N/A
Summary from Wattpad:

Lin Xiaoxiao, an obedient girl who is particularly prone to lose the golden peas, once a car accident, bound her fine work system every day.

The system allows her to penetrate into the world in the book, work hard to be the white moonlight of the future master hero, and then accumulate "value", and if she fails to complete the task, she will have to explode on the spot.

Xiaoxiao was trembling with fright, tears in her eyes: "Woo~~The hero is so terrible, I can't do it, what should I do? Huo~~~"

Seeing the host who can no longer counsel, the system hates iron. Gang, akimbo, threw out a copy of "Making Heaven and Earth", patted her chest and said, "What are you afraid of, learn from me!"

So Xiaoxiao followed the script with tears and courage to stop it. The male lead of a high school student, weak and weak: "You...Don't leave after school, I...I...I want to bully you."

Jun Ye raised his eyebrows and looked at the wicked milk. His future daughter-in-law, pulled someone into the grove and kissed her, took the initiative to take off her clothes, and Ren Jun picked it up and said, "Well, you bully."

Xiaoxiao:............... ........

To put it simply, this is a sweet story about the conscientious and dedicated female protagonist who wants to save his life and the male protagonist who only wants to spoil the female protagonist, "you are my pet"! It smells so good! Content Tag: Rebirth Sweet Wen Chuanshu Campus Search Keyword: Protagonist: Lin Xiaoxiao; Jun Ye┃Supporting Role: Other┃Others: Chuanshu; Female Match; System;

3.5 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

If you couldn't tell from the summary, this was a direct machine translation. If you can get over the incorrect pronouns, infer parts of sentences, and know enough idioms/slang like white moonlight, then I highly recommend reading this book! It was unexpectedly funny!

Lmao I love Jun Ye's relationship with his family. All the jokes that he was picked up from a trash can never fails to make me laugh. The best part was when his mom explained why they never pushed him to study hard! Lmao what a national treasure in their family!

Lin Xiaoxiao's relationship with her system was also pretty funny. I liked their banter and constant lying with their eyes wide open lol. I felt bad for Jun Ye because of Lin Xiaoxiao's tasks, but I also enjoyed seeing him confused and restraining his anger because he didn't understand why she was acting up lol.

All of the humor left me completely unprepared for the angst near the end though! Luckily, it was used to explain the past, and the book ended on a happy note.

AUG: Hospital Visits, Hangouts, Terrible Business, Crunch Time at Work, Farmer's Market

August was pretty stressful. I spent a lot of time dealing with mom's surgery follow-up and work.

Because Shelle and Kyle had bought tickets to Atlanta Comic Con months ago, I drove by myself to stay with mom at the hospital over the first weekend in August. Dad drove back home to deal with chores and bills, so I stayed at the hospital with mom for most of the day helping her with her daily needs like using the bathroom and moving the food tray around within reaching distance for her. She was getting antibiotics for the first two days, and the IV cords kept on getting twisted for some reason, so the alarm kept on going off every half hour, which was annoying.

The next weekend, Shelle went to stay with mom for the weekend. Kyle didn't go because his best friend was supposed to come over to hangout and watch a concert. I didn't go because I wanted to do run some errands and do some chores around my room since I haven't spent a weekend at home in the past month. Then, I got into an argument with dad the day before Shelle was heading out to Augusta, so I invited Jessica to come over and hangout that weekend while Kyle went with Shelle to stay with the parents at the hospital.

Jessica came over Saturday night, so I ordered Viet food using Uber Eats, since I was tired from running around town earlier in the day lol. We haven't seen each other in person since we went to Colorado last year in February, so there was so much to catch up on. I got to talk to her new boyfriend, and we had a spa night afterwards.

I had this purple clay mask I wanted to try out, so we ended up looking like clowns after it dried down, so we kept on laughing our asses off! Jessica FaceTimed her boyfriend to show him how goofy we looked, and then he sent her his screenshots of her, so we died again!

The next day, I made masala chai and tteokbokki for brunch. Then, we got sucked into watching Pray Away on Netflix because the featured clip they showed was too interesting. Unfortunately, the documentary was too dry, so we both fell asleep at different parts of the movie lol. Then, to get back on a happier note, I rewatched Taylor Tomlinson: Quarter-Life Crisis with Jessica because she hadn't seen it yet, and we're thinking of going to her comedy show in November if Covid cases die down. Then, her mom texted and asked her if she was free to talk that night (they've had an argument for the past three months), so she left not long after Shelle and Kyle came back home that Sunday.

Because mom was told that she would be discharged from the hospital soon, we hired a cleaning company near their home to do a deep clean of the place since no one's cleaned the house for almost two months, and mom needs a clean, dust-free living environment.

Anyway, this company already pissed us off because Shelle originally agreed for them to come clean the house on the 14th, but a week before that, she asked them if we could move the dates because mom was getting better and might be discharged earlier. However, no one responded back to her for five days, and when they finally did, they said the earliest date they could come over was like the 21st or something, so Shelle said, "Nevermind, we'll just stick to the 14th", but this bitch was like, "Sorry, we already booked someone else for this date." So now we're even more pissed because they didn't respond in a timely manner and had already removed us from our original date without confirming anything with us first. But we agree to the new date because we had already paid them upfront. But the morning of the 21st, they texted Shelle and said that one of their cleaners was sick and so they couldn't come over today and would need to reschedule. Again. So we're all even more pissed.

Shelle eventually called the company and filed a complaint and asked for a refund. We decided to spot clean the house for now and hired a different company to come over, which came last weekend. It's just ridiculous because before booking their services, we only found great reviews from them online. Then, when all this bullshit with them appeared, we suddenly saw a bunch of complaints about them on Yelp and Facebook about running into the same issues.

Don't know why we didn't see those complaints to begin with, but I'm glad we went with this other company. Even though it took them longer (since it was one worker for the morning and another worker came in the afternoon), they were really thorough and nice and told us that if we noticed they missed anything, just contact them, and they'll come back and fix it.

Near the end of the month, I was also super stressed because of work. I was supposed to have finished these three decks by August, but because of mom's stuff and other projects taking priority and just being lazy lol, I hadn't finished them. Then, our consultants were on my case for getting them done, so I was working overtime for a week trying to crank these decks out and get them reviewed in time. All of this could have been avoided if I managed my time better, but that's just who I am as a person lol.

That Saturday, I explored the Farmer's Market in downtown Woodstock for the first time with some of our neighbors and their baby in the morning. It was pretty small, but they had so many food stalls! There was a lot of variety, so between the three of us, we got Jamaican hibiscus tea, fried pies, and empanadas for brunch.

After we got home, I rested for a bit before finishing the decks and officially felt ten pounds lighter now that I completed most of my responsibilities lol. I still needed to wait on the SMEs to review the deck, but that doesn't take as much time as creating them lol.

Overall, it was an eventful month :)

Webnovel Review: Surprise! The Supposed Talent Show Was Actually–?! by Yan Baibai

Title: Surprise! The Supposed Talent Show Was Actually–?!
Author: Yan Baibai
Chapters: 225 chapters + 13 extras
Publication: 2018
Summary from Novel Updates:

Wu Jin, as a trainee from a certain entertainment company, had a peerless, stunning face. He was qualified to debut as a lead performer even if he just sat there and did nothing.

After signing up for a certain talent show, the shining path to stardom beckoned to him––

Wu Jin: Hold on, why is this show different from what we agreed on? Wasn’t it supposed to be about jumping around, dancing, and singing songs? Why do you have to send me out into the wilderness…

Program Producer: You’re a once-in-a-century high appearance value competitor! We’re relying on you to save the program’s ratings!

Wu Jin: … I seem to be on the wrong show. Wait a minute, this isn’t an idol show, it’s a fighting survival reality show ahhh!!

Ten months later, the little cutie who had been thrown into the show––

Turned into a human weapon.

Powering up through various instances, slight entertainment circle elements.

Extremely overpowered gong x little cutie who grows to become an overpowered shou.

5 STARS - I LOVED IT

MY REVIEW:

This was such an entertaining, hilarious, and informative book! The elimination rounds were varied and interesting, especially beginning with the tarot card round. I didn't expect to learn so much about the eras leading up to the evolution of dinosaurs or about the drama and politics about major players during during King Louis XIV - King Louis XVI's reign in France.

Wu Jin and Wei Shi definitely made the book better. I loved their relationship and how they grew together. Wu Jin's enthusiasm, fighting spirit, and sheer awe at Wei Shi at the beginning was super cute and hilarious. Wei Shi's laidback and hands-off but doting behavior was also super cute and hilarious. I love the POV shifts that go from action! fighting! gunshots! to taking the rabbit out for a walk and getting rid of pests along the way lmao.

The side characters were also great. I loved the White Moonlight family. The overprotective Zoe, the level-headed Wen Lin, and the all-brawns, no brain Caesar made their interactions so fun during the competition.

Caesar alone was such a fun character. He had that goofy, muscle-headed older bro type that got along with similar people like a house on fire. The best quote that described him was from his captain: Caesar was a single-celled creature, wasn’t he? What was his girlfriend thinking? Dating an amoeba? lmaooo

In between all of the elimination rounds that can start tiring you out, there's actually plot! And it's so good! All of the foreshadowing came out, and the plot twist was so good! The extras also tied up a lot of loose ends and were pretty fluffy, which I really enjoyed.

I read and watched a lot of things this month! :) Unfortunately, I didn't read a single thing off of my Books I Want to Read This Month list lol.

I had a webnovel reading slump where I wasn't really interested in reading any webnovels, so I read a LOT of manga and webtoons instead near the end of the month when I was working overtime lol. Was that the best decision? Probably not, but I still do it anyway lol.

I also ended watching some interesting stuff and rewatching Taylor Tomlinson's comedy special when Jessica came over for a weekend lol
