As Felix warms to his companion, can Adelaide win this battle for his heart? Based on the hit novel.

2 STARS - IT WAS OKAY

MY REVIEW:

I couldn't really put my finger on it, but this webtoon got boring after a while. There's a clear villain (and some minor ones), and the main characters know that they must get rid of her to solve their problems. Maybe because the essential plot was so clear cut from the get-go that it ruined the mystery and foreshadowing that the authors were trying to convey?

I started skipping around chapters after I got to chapter 35 and didn't feel like I missed much of the plot in between. The art was really pretty, which was probably most of the appeal that kept me reading the webtoon.

Title: Let Me Eat You... Please?
Author: Rico Sakura
Chapters: 5 chapters
Publication: 2018
Summary from Renta:

"I don't mind being your dog at all."

Ever since Akira started at that school, rumors have been flying around about the class loner, Yukiharu Kumagaya. One day, Akira gets paired up with Kumagaya in gym class. Somehow, Akira seems to have struck a chord with him and the alleged badass is in love. He does whatever Akira tells him, following him around like a pet dog or a duckling... He's nothing like the rumors said! Not just that, he keeps getting jealous and trying to get more than friendship out of Akira. Sometimes, he's just so handsome, it even makes Akira blush. Poor Akira sure attracted a lot of trouble... And yet, he still somehow can't bring himself to leave Kumagaya alone...

A high-school romance between the calm, devoted, and dog-like "Yuki" and his little master!

3 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

I'm always a sucker for giant puppy semes and their soft-hearted ukes! This was very fluffy and cute! There's not a lot of character development since it's just one volume, but I liked how they eventually communicated their problems.

Title: I Became a Villain Daughter
Author: Kuroda Yuzuki & Koura
Chapters: 7 chapters
Publication: 2019
Summary from Manga Updates:

On her 15th birthday, Hinase Kaede, a young girl who was working as a part-timer, perished in a traffic accident. Upon her death, a self-proclaimed “God” appeared, declaring that Kaede would be brought back to life. However, Kaede’s happiness was short-lived and her soul was thrown into Erika, the villainess of an otome game! In the original game, Erika became a saint candidate alongside the heroine, committed evil deeds over the course of the candidacy, and ultimately faced condemnation. Thus, Kaede decides that she will not get close to the main characters of the game so as to avoid the bad end, but yet——?

This is the long-awaited fantasy story of a villainess who makes every effort to avoid falling into ruin.

3 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

This had the potential to be so much more! Obviously, there could have been more antics to avoid the capture targets because I think one wasn't even mentioned in the manga. Also, we never got to know what all cheats "god" gave her, and the manga definitely underplayed her cheats. She can talk to animals/demons and was given more powers later, but that was barely covered.

There were so many potential plot points that could lead to different courses of her fate! There's supposed to be a whole journey, but it just ends with talk about it instead. I thought that this manga might be based off of a light novel, but I can't seem to find any, so I guess the manga got cancelled which is a shame.

Mini Reviews: The Red String of Fate, Kanawanu Koi no Musubikata, Tsunaida Koi no Kanaekata

Title: The Red String of Fate
Author: Yoshio Akira
Chapters: 5 chapters + 2 extras
Publication: 2016
Summary from Renta!:

Keiji has the special ability to see red strings of fate...threads that connect when two people are meant to spend the rest of their lives together. One day, he looks down at his hand and sees that his string has finally connected to someone!! But when Keiji finds the person on the other end, he realizes it's... a guy!!!

3 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

I loved how Kei was just in denial while slowly falling for Hiro while Hiro was just earnestly having doki doki moments with his crush after Kei stopped yelling at him lmao. Hiro as a puppy seme was super adorable, too.

Title: Kanawanu Koi no Musubikata
Author: Yoshio Akira
Chapters: 6 chapters + 1 extra
Publication: 2018
Summary from Manga Updates:

Kamisawa Kaoru can see - and cut - not just the red thread of fate, but any of the many threads which bind people to each other in varying forms. He uses this ability to run a business where he gets rid of pesky relationships for others. Ironically, Kamisawa himself has no red thread, and therefore is forever fated to watch his lovers find their destined one and leave him behind.

He thought he had long since come to terms with this harsh reality, until the day when a man named Hara comes to him for help getting rid of a stalker...

3.5 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

This is a spin-off of The Red String of Fate, where Kaoru was introduced in one of the later chapters.

The insta-love was really quick, but I'll give it a pass because Hara was 100% into Kaoru and respectful of his wishes. Even though Kaoru kept a strict line in their relationship, he still fell for Hara even knowing that it'll end up in heartbreak for him. The pain Kaoru felt knowing that the red string of fate's never given him a happy ending and trying to protect himself was so heartbreaking.

Title: Tsunaida Koi no Kanaekata
Author: Yoshio Akira
Chapters: 6 chapters + 2 extras
Publication: 2019
Summary from Manga Updates:

The continuation of Kamisawa and Hara's relationship, and the rocky path they must tread before they can find true happiness with each other.

4 STARS - I REALLY LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

This is a sequel to Kanawanu Koi no Musubikata.

The angst! The selfless love! The persistence! I loved it! Also, Kei from The Red String of Fate plays a part in here!

MAR: Visit the Parents, Doctor's Appointments, Surgery, Recovery, COVID Vaccine

March had a lot of doctor's visits. I mentioned in February’s post that I wanted to focus on my health and scheduled a lot of appointments for surgery and such, so I spent a lot of time on the road going to different appointments lol.

After going down and visiting the parents during the first weekend, I had my annual physical and found out that still have a vitamin D deficiency. Luckily, it’s not as bad as the previous year’s result where it was more drastic. Guess I can just keep on eating my vitamin D gummies like I’ve been doing for the past few months.

The next Monday, I went to my ear and nose surgery pre-op appointment to find out what I needed to do before my surgery on Thursday. I also had to take another Covid-19 test to be approved to go to the hospital for surgery. My nose hurt so much during that test! Definitely the worst Covid-19 test I’ve taken so far.

On Thursday, Shelle drove me to the hospital for surgery. I was dumb and didn’t think to schedule my surgery for the morning, so I was starving all day since I couldn’t eat eight hours before surgery. I became even hungrier after I found out that my surgery was delayed for an hour lol. When it was time for my surgery, they rolled me into the operating room and knocked me out with anesthesia almost immediately. I woke up in a waiting room and had to stay there for 15 minutes with a nurse before I was ready to be rolled into another waiting room for Shelle to pick me and take me home. She had left before my surgery to pick up my prescription and make lunch and came back after my doctor called her after the surgery finished. After I changed my clothes and bled everywhere with my nosebleed (typical after surgery), Shelle took me home.

I spent the next couple of days in a haze recovering. I didn’t know just how much pain I was in until I realized that the reason why my eyes kept on constantly tearing up was because my face hurt so much. Luckily, my prescription strength painkillers helped make it easier to handle the pain. The most annoying part of recovering was that I was always dripping blood and drainage from my nose, so I used a whole tissue box during the first week. I also had to do a nasal saline solution with a squeeze bottle to drain out my nose twice a day, which was difficult to do in the beginning since my nose was constantly blocked with dried blood and mucus. Really gross times lol.

I had a follow-up appointment the next Friday. Luckily, my doctor said I was healing up very well. My ear looked good, and my nose was healing well. But I still have to do the nasal saline solution twice a day for a month before coming back for a follow-up shot for my ear.

Earlier that week, Covid-19 vaccinations were open to the public, so Shelle, Kyle, and I scheduled our appointment ASAP and managed to get a slot at night at the Mercede-Benz Stadium on March 31st. We left work a little early and drove downtown.

After we got to the parking lot, Shelle and Kyle pulled up their QR code needed for entrance, which is when I found out that I never received a confirmation email with a QR code after I scheduled my appointment. I panicked and called the phone number provided and found out that I was still able to get my shot. I just had to go to a different area to check-in again and had to go to a different spot to get my shot. My section was actually faster than Shelle and Kyle’s section, so after I spent 15 minutes in the waiting area after I got my vaccine, I spent 25 minutes reading outside in the little park area near the parking garage.

So yeah, it was an eventful time this month. I had a lot of injections and surgeries and spent a lot of time recovering.

4.5 STARS - I REALLY LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

This was so sweet and adorable and heartwarming. The cat stole my heart from the first chapter!

Pick this up if you want something to brighten your day. Or if you love pets in general lol. Super fluffy and heartwarming in a way that it makes your heart ache at the circumstances that the cat and his new owner were left in before they found each other.

4.5 STARS - I REALLY LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

Their pure adoration towards each other is just *chefs kiss*

Title: Trap City
Author: Team JT
Chapters: 34 chapters + 2 extras
Publication: 2018
Summary from Novel Updates:

Trap City, a crime city in which the first, second, and third thing you must beware of is people. Noah Humphrey stole away the boss' money and ran away with it amidst an inconspicuous war between the two greatest groups in the city. Will he live as a toy for the boss Kahliya, or as a bait for the boss Rex, leaders of the rivaling groups? A love story blooms during a critical situation in which you have to do anything in order to survive!

3.5 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

I really liked the overall mood of this webtoon. Noah and Rex and everyone else introduced in here are all jaded and mainly look out for themselves because the city is literally a trap of all the worst things in humanity. They grew up in a dog eat dog world where districts are run by corporate gangs, and it was tough to survive as orphans.

Noah was trapped as on one of the big boss's (Kahliya) lover, so he took a chance to run away with his money and had to deal with the fallout as best as he could, which was becoming the bait to lure Kahliya out for Rex's revenge. Of course, this is a romance webtoon, so feelings get involved even though Noah and Rex keep trying to rationalize their feelings because they both have different purposes. Watching all of the characters try to figure out who to trust and finding out how fucked up some of them are because of their history was really entertaining.

The art was great, the little chibis were cute and funny, the smut was hot, and the plot was good. If it went a little longer, I think it could have fleshed out some of the side characters, which would have helped with the climax. Other than that, this was a nice, somewhat quick webtoon to read.

Publication: 2015
Summary from Novel Updates:

Thus, he would change his fate as an abused slag.

5 STARS - IT WAS AMAZING

MY REVIEW:

I finally understand why everyone raves about this book. Quick transmigration stories are hit or miss with me because I lose interest if the arcs and characters aren't interesting enough. However, that definitely wasn't a problem here.

Reading about Zhou Yunsheng's revenge and trying to figure out who the male lead was in each arc was really fun. There's 15 arcs in the main story, so there's bound to be something that interests you. The first arc was the most boring because it repeatedly emphasized his great hacking skills, but it's not a bad start.

My favorite arcs were the autistic painter, the landlord, the concubine, the supermodel contestant, researcher in the apocalypse, the light priest, the twin, and the emperor arcs. Lol I didn't realize I liked so many of them until I wrote it out.

There are also four more arcs as extras which are more kinky, so if that's not your thing, you can just skip it.

One day, he sees a cute sub beastman deep in the forest. The sub beastman also sees him. At once, the sub beastman’s eyes roll backwards and he faints…. Scared to death?

Shu Shu: I have a unique technique of faking death.

2 STARS - IT WAS OKAY

MY REVIEW:

I really liked the author's other work, Stone Age Husband Raising Journal, so I thought I would like this book. Unfortunately, I thought this book was too slow and boring.

There was a lot of repeated information, especially about the beast bead and beast cores, which got tiring after a while. The romance was supposed to be sweet and fluffy, but it was more slow and draggy to me.

Even the face slapping events weren't that great. The author tried to drag out the tension by having a bunch of spectators comment on the event, but it was just unnecessary drivel with little payoff at the end. However, I might be more biased about this point because I had recently finished reading Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil, which had the BEST face slapping moments.

Title: Anti-Platonic
Author: Yupopo Orishima
Pages: 199
Publication: 2015
Summary from Renta!:

Playboy Ryoya has a male fuck buddy: his roommate Io. Io's cold and doesn't show his feelings, but his chemistry with Ryoya is incredible. Io never falls in love, but will his addiction to the scent of Ryoya change him into an obsessed lover? He's never revealed his true feelings before...

2.5 STARS - I LIKED IT ENOUGH

MY REVIEW:

It was pretty fun watching a well-known player/party animal fall for his friends with benefit roommate. He went from a manwhore to a puppy real quick as soon as he realized his feelings lol.

I wished there was more from Io's point of view because there wasn't as much backstory to why he's so apathetic or how/when he fell for Ryoya compared to his past relationships.

Mini Reviews: Vanguard of the Eternal Night, Kyoudai Biyori, I Am a Duchess Who Has Rewound Nine Times, but My Tenth Life Seems to Be a Reward Mode

Title: Vanguard of the Eternal Night
Author: The Aria At The Fingertips
Chapters: 157 chapters
Publication: 2016
Summary from Novel Updates:

A master assassin transmigrates into an interstellar era.

Other players were responsible for competing in the e-sports arena, while he was responsible for stringing up and beating up the other players.

His sword was hidden during the peak of day, and he was a gentleman who arrived in a flash of light. As a vanguard of the eternal night, he was the variable between life and death in the world.

“As you know, the Star League’s difficulty levels are arranged in this way:

Paradise < Simple < Normal < Difficult < Nightmare < Hell < [Tyron Odin]”

4 STARS - I REALLY LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

The serious summary does not even hint at the amount of hilarity and fluff this book contains! This was such an entertaining read.

You have a super beautiful, indifferent assassin gong who's used to living in the shadows. He transmigrates to the future and doesn't understand modern interstellar people's thought processes, which is hilarious. However, he starts to like teasing one of his fanboys and is smooth as hell about it. Like wow, he wouldn't even need to show his face to get Yu Yan to fall for him if he just started off using those lines.

I love Yu Yan's duality. He's super soft and a huge fanboy in front of his male god, but he's a super intelligent noble elite who can easily play the overbearing CEO role in the name of justice lmao.

There's so many fluffy interactions between them in between all of the exciting competition matches. This book has the perfect amount of action, humor, tension, and romance.

Also, I've never read about such passionate and obsessed fans as the Rainy Day Cult lmao. If I could see that iconic scene in person, I'd probably also join it lol.

Title: Kyoudai Biyori
Author: Tsuge Amayo
Chapters: 5 chapters + 2 extras
Publication: 2008
Summary from Manga Updates:

After his parents go overseas for a few months to work, Kouta, a college student, gets to live in the family house again with his brother Tetsurou, who came back from Tokyo to keep him company. Kouta hasn’t seen his big brother for six years, and doesn’t really get along with him. The situation soon gets awkward when Kouta realizes he doesn’t know anything about his brother... And it gets worse when he becomes aware that the antipathy he felt towards him, might be more ambiguous than he previously thought...

3 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

I was immediately hooked from the beginning. This is a slice of life incest romance. You'd think that there would be a lot of angst and tragedy since it's such a taboo topic. Instead, the story is immersed in tension and melancholy as it transitions between the past and present as they figure out their future.

The art style really heightened the tension. Tetsurou's expressions, especially in the first chapter, were just *chef's kiss*

Title: I Am a Duchess Who Has Rewound Nine Times, but My Tenth Life Seems to Be a Reward Mode
Author: Shinoda Mikan
Chapters: 81 chapters
Publication: 2020
Summary from Novel Updates:

After her fiancé was stolen by Mia, a saint who came from another world, Duchess Alicia Grants was sentenced to death and executed.

Every time she died, her life was rewound. Each time, Prince Maximilian would be captivated by Mia!

As such, Alicia kept being executed, executed, and executed!

It was in her tenth life when she was finally reborn as the poor Baroness Ally.

‘I’m no longer involved with princes and saints!’

Then she decided to work as a maid in the royal palace for her sickly younger brother.

For some reason, Prince Maximilian didn’t give any attention to Saint Mia and began to dote on Baroness Ally…

3 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

This was a satire on the transmigration genre. In typical transmigration books, the main character is the one who comes from a different world and usually with some OP skill to make their integration into society easier. However, in this book, it takes place from a villainess's point of view and shows just how dangerous it is to suddenly have an outsider come into your world and how easily one person can mess things up.

However, it's also hilarious because in Ally's tenth life, she makes big changes in herself and finds out that certain main characters also changed. Just know that muscles is power. That's all you really need to know lmao. Also, the translator's notes at the end of every chapter is also hilarious.

FEB: Visiting Parents, Cheat Day Meal, Hanging Out with Friends, Hair Donation, and New Look

February was a short but impactful month.

I started off the month by visiting the parents during the first week. Mom made a feast for the whole weekend as usual. Meanwhile, dad had us in stitches with his hilarious stories.

The next weekend was Valentine’s Day. Shelle and Kyle had a great idea to change up the holiday by eating our favorite shitty guilty pleasure restaurants that the others don’t like to eat from instead of ordering a fancy meal from a fancy restaurant. For example, Shelle loves Taco Bell but doesn’t eat it often because Kyle hates it, and Kyle loves Krystals, but Shelle and I hate it, so we never eat there. I didn’t have any restaurants that either of them particularly hated, so I chose Chic-fil-a since we stopped supporting them a long time ago (I also really missed their spicy sriracha sauce lol). However, Valentine’s Day was so hateful to fall on a Sunday, so my plans were ruined lol. I opted for McDonald’s instead since we rarely eat there anymore. Lol it was an eventful day running around doing errands and picking up our meals at three different restaurants.

The next Saturday, we made plans to hangout at Archana’s apartment since half of the group still hasn’t seen it yet. I even went over early to go on a walk with Archana since half of the group didn’t want to do it lol. However, on the day of, Jack and Erin dipped out, and Ebony was going to be late because Liv wasn’t taking a nap on time. I was disappointed because I had brought a lot of stuff to give everyone that has been accumulating since the start of the pandemic. Like, I had made these skincare and makeup baggies for everyone and had a kid’s book for Jack’s kids and the random cat CBD pills for Erin.

Anyway, Archana and I ate a giant meal, attempted to take a nap but read instead, and hungout until Ebony and her family arrived. Then, I had to drive down to Warner Robins to visit the parents in time for dinner since Shelle and Kyle drove down the night before.

We spent the weekend eating way too much food again and doing errands for the parents.

Then, that following Wednesday, I finally got a haircut! I have been wanting to donate my hair for a couple of months now since it was so long, but I kept on putting it off. This was mainly because I would go through bouts where I wanted to chop it off because I wanted a change and to keep it long because it looked really nice and healthy lol. However, the week before, I had finally made up my mind to be more proactive about my health and image, so I called multiple places and scheduled appointments to have my annual physical, annual pap smear, ear and nose surgery, and hair donation so I couldn’t keep procrastinating.

The first appointment was to donate my hair. I let my hair stylist do whatever she wanted to the rest of my hair after I told her I wanted it to be as short near shoulder height, and I loved it! I just didn’t expect having shorter hair made me look younger lol. I looked like a high schooler with my casual outfit lol.

She first showed me my hair as it would be normally since it’s always straight. Then, she curled it to show my how I could dress it up. It looked really nice! I was very satisfied with my new haircut.

A few days later, Tawanda, Tiet, and her fiancé came over to hangout. It was BYOD (bring your own dinner) since everyone was coming over after work, and then Shelle made fruit crepes for dessert, so we were stuffed after the meal. Overall, it was a fun night.

So yeah, February was nice and busy.
