Mini Reviews: Marry the Male Partner's Big Brother, The Zombies Are Coming But I’m Laying Down At Home, Dangerous Convenience Store Season One

Title: Marry the Male Partner's Big Brother
Author: 林绵绵
Chapters: 98 chapters + 7 extras
Publication: 2019
Summary from jjwxc:

Also known as: "I'm Waiting to Die in a Rich Family"

The money-loving Sang Yao crossed over and became the fiancée of the male supporting role in the novel. In the end, the hero sent her to a mental hospital.

People close to her persuaded her to break off the engagement, but she smiled and shook her head to refuse.

The outside world said that Sang Yao was a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. Only she knew that the male supporting role would not be able to jump around for long, and later died to save the heroine. At that time, as his wife, wouldn't she be able to inherit his property?

Her only dream is to hang out in a wealthy family and wait to die~

Until one day, her fiancé's big brother blocked her at the door after being drunk, and said in a low voice: "What he can give you, I can give, but he can't give it to you." I can give yours too, so, do you want to consider me?"

Sang Yao:? ? ?

2.5 STARS - IT WAS OKAY

MY REVIEW:

The romance and pacing was pretty slow. Most likely that was to show the ML's forbearance and restraint, which is understandable. He was trying to do the right thing. I felt like the male partner needed a more satisfying ending. He was a total scumbag who didn't care about anyone other than his feelings, and he needed a better ending than just quietly disappearing at the end.

Title: The Zombies Are Coming But I’m Laying Down At Home
Author: 孤独的兔子舞
Chapters: 115 chapters + 3 extras
Publication: 2022
Summary from Novel Updates:

While reading a novel, Fu Erdie thought more than once that if she arrived in an apocalyptic world, she could only wait for death.

The cars could not be driven, roads could not be recognized, they could not even cook food.

There was also physical strength involved…there was no need for her to encounter a zombie because with just a sudden drop of temperature, she could get a cold and fever and die from it.

As a useless person of the new century, she sincerely hoped that the whole world would be prosperous and free of disease and calamity. At the same time, she could just draw at home and earn living expenses while muddling through.

As a result, God played a joke on her.

After a shower of rain, the world changed. There were zombies and dead plants everywhere.

She looked down from a window on the 10th floor and saw the crowd panicking. The cars rammed and blocked the road, and the small noodle shop she often went to was now stained with blood… Everything pulled back Fu Erdie from her fantasy.

The world had truly changed.

Fu Erdie decided to go out to find her relatives, and she would bet on whether she would become a zombie or an alien. She gathered her courage and opened the door, then stepped back and closed it. The zombie neighbors in the corridor were horrible! It is impossible to fight zombies, you can only wait to die in a wretched manner. And any chance, there was a lot of stored food at home that she could eat for a month.

But her ending was probably one of the two choices she had in her mind, to die now or die in a month. And she chose to lay down and continue her everyday normal life. She would just wait to meet the upcoming water and electricity cuts.

On the first day, everything was the same. The next day, everything was the same. The next day after, everything was still the same. The next…

A month later, it was time to pay the utility bill. The internet got disconnected and she did not pay the bill. The rest of the building was pitch black.

But her room was still bright.

The flush toilet could be used as usual. The natural gas could be used for her luxurious bathing. The small kumquats, small peppers, and shallots planted and grown on the balcony even thrived at a rate that did not conform to the laws of nature.

Fu Erdie suddenly found out that she had not mutated, but her own house had mutated?!

4 STARS - I REALLY LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

I think this was a more realistic portrayal of how an ordinary person would handle surviving in a sudden zombie apocalypse. The beginning was pretty dark and bleak as Fu Erdie came to terms with her situation and her helplessness. However, she eventually grew and became the kindergarten director (lol), and the mood and overall pace of the story became less dark and more humorous as her plants continued to grow. Overall, a great zombie apocalypse novel, especially if you like plants vs zombies lol.

Webtoon Review: The Golden-Haired Summoner Season 1-3 by Glby & domac

Title: The Golden-Haired Summoner Season 1-3
Author: Glby & domac
Chapters: 108 chapters
Publication: 2019
Summary from Mangaupdates:

Following the trauma of a studying-induced death, Jinny is reborn into a fantastical realm filled with magic, orcs, and talking spirits. As Geenie Crowell, the daughter of a noble and a bona fide genius, everyone has big plans for her, including her new parents, teachers, and even the king! Not too keen on all these high expectations that might end badly for her again, Geenie thinks up the perfect way out from slaving over a hot magic wand: if she becomes a summoner, she'll be able to summon a spirit and have them do all the work! But Geenie will soon learn that there’s more to it all than just adorable spirit companions and collecting mana. Being a summoner comes with great responsibility–and dangerous consequences as well. Based on the hit novel.

4 STARS - I REALLY LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

I loved how Geenie was so unapologetically herself. She knows she's selfish, conniving, greedy, and a total facecon lol. She also has no empathy, which causes hilarious situations all of the time! If she's not your cup of tea... idk, stop reading instead of complaining?

There's not much romance either, so don't go into this with high hopes for that either. It's a super slow burn if any because Geenie isn't interested in getting into relationships or being tied down by marriage. This is her second chance to live; she's going to do whatever she wants!

I actually wonder if she's aromantic because she totally gives off that vibe even knowing that people like her. Instead, all of her love and affection (and sass) is given to her spirits lol. I especially love her bickering relationship with Rai and her endless love for the cute Undine!

It's a shame that the webtoon artist has dropped the series after the third season. Turns out they decided to end the series because the webnovel was now over 600 chapters long. I heard from some commenters that a new artist is taking over the series, but am not sure when that will start being released. The art was great, but I'll be glad to not see the occasional yaoi hands anymore lol.

Mini Reviews: The Destroyer Fell in Love with Me, The Villainess Turns the Hourglass Season 2-3

Title: The Destroyer Fell in Love with Me
Author: DIAN, YounDal & Haring
Chapters: 85 chapters

Summary from Tappytoon:

Out of one mistake erupts an exciting and intense romance story! She heads to a bar to drink away her sorrows, but ends up drunkenly spending the night with Duke Kyle, a man on the fast track to self-destruction. She tries to get away from the Duke and his notorious reputation… But will Amelia be able to change fate and give this love story a happy ending?

3.5 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

This is another isekai webtoon where a girl finds out that she's transmigrated into a novel and is trying to slowly change her destiny out of debt lol. The problem is that she was a little annoying in the beginning because she stubbornly thought that the main plot of the novel would stay the same even though she set off her own butterfly effect with the male lead. After she gets over that, the plot and characters really took off.

There was a lot of humor to set off the action and drama, which was amusing, especially the misunderstanding because of a book. I also think Vanessa was a really great OG!FL. She knew her priorities from the beginning lol.

Title: The Villainess Turns the Hourglass Season 2
Author: Ant Studio & SANSOBEE
Chapters: 46-87
Publication: 2020
Summary from Tappytoon:

After her lowly mother married a count, Aria enjoyed a life full of luxury while harassing her gentle stepsister Mielle. Several years later, Aria is about to be executed when Mielle reveals that she wickedly tricked Aria into building the bad reputation that ultimately brought her to the scaffold. Just as Aria desparately wishes she could change her fate, she sees a curious hourglass that takes her back into the past. Now, Aria can destroy Mielle by using her own tactics against her like a true villainess. The power of the hourglass is on her side... Can Aria take everything from Mielle, or will her actions change the past in ways she couldn't have imagined? Based on the hit novel.

5 STARS - I LOVED IT

MY REVIEW:

Cain is beyond disgusting, and I can't wait to see Mielle getting even more of what she deserved.

Loved Aria's growth in this season and how her and Asher's relationship is so supportive and funny. Also loved Aria and her mother's relationship. Happy that she'll have her own happy ending.

Title: The Villainess Turns the Hourglass Season 3
Author: Ant Studio & SANSOBEE
Chapters: 88-104
Publication: 2020
Summary from Tappytoon:

3.5 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

I felt like this series could have ended with season 2. That climax was great! Season 3 felt more dragged out in the name of revenge and spent a long time on the side story, which could have been shortened in half. Glad that it tied up all of the loose ends, but it was going overboard at one point.

Webtoon Review: The Reason Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke's Mansion by Milcha & Whale

Title: The Reason Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke's Mansion
Author: Milcha & Whale
Chapters: 147 chapters + 11 extras
Publication: 2018
Summary from Tappytoon:

Poisoned to death by her own betrothed?! Eunha didn't wake up in a novel's story just to get killed off again as an unfortunate extra! To change her story she needs a cover: 6 months pretending to be the fake fiancée of the novel's male protagonist, Duke Noah Wynknight. But will this cold-hearted, angel-faced demon of a man really help her avoid another ill-fated ending?! Based on the hit novel.

3.5 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

It's been a long time since I enjoyed an aristocratic/transmigrated webtoon with a great female lead. Raeliana was such a fun and relatable protagonist. She freaked out when she realized that she died in her original world and transmigrated into a book she had read. She used her memory and wits to figure out how to break her engagement with her fiancé and ended up with a bickering friendship with Duke Noah that slowly developed into a true romance.

What I appreciated was how because she died unexpectedly in her original world, she was willing to try to change Raeliana's fate and survive no matter what. She was active and decisive, going into action herself when necessary even when she was afraid and not waiting for someone to save her.

Noah was also really great. At the beginning, they had a bickering almost antagonistic relationship with each other until he fell for her and started doting and teasing her like crazy lol. He really knew how to make her run away in embarrassment with his sincerity lol.

But my favorite character was definitely Adam Taylor. He was just so cute, especially with his expressionless face. Raeli never knew how much trouble one dragon handkerchief would bring her lmao.

Noah's personal guards were all great and hilarious in their own ways, especially Wheaton. I love how he's a loyal dog to both her and Noah, and his mouth gets him into trouble a lot lol.

The art was really nice, too. There were lots of hilarious chibi expressions every chapter!

Mini Review: Second Lead Complex; As a Female Partner, She Just Wants to Rise; Rebirth 60, I Have Supported Five Big Bosses

Title: Second Lead Complex
Author: Soi
Chapters: 46 chapters
Publication: 2020
Summary from MangaUpdates:

When I opened my eyes, I had become the heroine of a romance comic!

I may have become the heroine, but I prefer the second male lead!

3.5 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

I really liked Yeonie! She was forward and hilarious, and all of her expressions were exaggeratedly funny whenever she was depressed or shocked lol.

I was definitely interested in this webtoon because it really is hard liking the second male lead in books and knowing that they're going to end up unhappy! We just want them to be happy! Luckily, it doesn't happen here! Unfortunately, now the male lead suffers...

And the whole transmigration spin was novel; I liked how they tried to solve it.

Shi Qiao: Oh, hey.

Sand Sculpture Geng straight young sister X hypocrite true scheming big brother.

2.5 STARS - IT WAS OKAY

MY REVIEW:

This book had a very predictable plot. It was easy to see how everything was going to play out after reading the first third of the book. However, it was still entertaining enough to read to see how everything would play out.

This was also MTL, so if you're not in the mood to put in extra effort to decipher MTL grammar, I'd probably pass on this book and read another cultivation novel instead.

Title: Rebirth 60, I Have Supported Five Big Bosses
Author: Long September
Chapters: 420 chapters
Publication: N/A
Summary from Wattpad:

Once through, Song Lan, the world's number one female agent, was reborn in the 1960s with a super mall worth tens of billions. She became a small downfall on the streets, with five hungry siblings left behind by her parents. Rise strongly, soar up, and become a famous business woman. PS: The new article is still the style of the previous works in September, strong female, super cool, super sweet, no abuse, no misunderstanding. If you like it, help collect one, love you, what is it~

3 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

This was a relaxing, slice of life story mainly because the main characters were too OP. Every time there was a chance of danger, it was easily solved. Finding supplies and making money was super easy because she had a space storage as well. There were slight conflicts with people that were usually solved with faceslapping after a big reveal or by some secret undercover work behind the scenes. However, the vast amount of characters and sibling interactions were really great!

This book was also super patriotic. I get it, she used to be a secret undercover agent for the country, so doing things for the country was already ingrained in her bones. If you're okay with all of that, then this is your type of book.

Mini Reviews: This Time, I Will Definitely Be Happy!; Asatte ni Kiss; I'll Like You More Tomorrow

Title: This Time, I Will Definitely Be Happy!
Author: Saiki Riko & Fujimaru Mamenosuke
Chapters: 26.5 chapters
Publication: 2017
Summary from Manga Updates:

“Wait for me, Louisa.”

Those were the words that the hero, Graham, said to me before he set off to defeat the demon king. Graham who is both my childhood friend and lover. But, I have no intention of waiting. In fact, I have the memories of my past three lives, and in all past three lives, I have been the hero’s childhood friend and lover. However, all past three heroes always found other women and never came back to me! That’s why I will no longer waste my time waiting for the hero to come back, this time I will definitely be happy!

3 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

Based on the summary, I was expecting a romcom about a girl getting over her hero ex, but I was mislead.

The first volume is exactly like as how the summary states: After the her lover leaves to go on his hero journey to defeat the demon king, Louisa immediately packs up and leaves for the capital to forget about Graham and try to live her life to the fullest with a new job and new friends. However, there's a lot of foreshadowing in her dreams that she can't figure out, and the biggest surprise is that Graham comes back for her! She's confused and trying to figure out what to do as more surprising events unfold.

I loved that this manga is a different take on so many genres and tropes like reincarnation, what happens after you defeat the demon lord, politics, and more. Also, that epilogue was perfect. I couldn't have wished for a more happy ending because they deserved it!

All was well until Akihisa became puzzled by the fact Yuu would randomly kiss him without saying anything.

4 STARS - I REALLY LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

This was so cute! I loved how Akki kept on complimenting and accidentally making Yuu fall for him with his genuine sincerity and cute faces. His absolute obliviousness was hilarious. Poor Yuu didn't stand a chance.

Mini Reviews: La Dolce Vita di Adelaide, Let Me Eat You... Please?, I Became a Villain Daughter

Title: La Dolce Vita di Adelaide
Author: Chae Habin & Suho
Chapters: 85 chapters + prologue
Publication: 2017
Summary from TappyToon:

Attending the debutant ball to meet this new Susanne, Adelaide ends up making a deal with the handsome duke Felix: become his "fake" fiancee so he can keep the gold-digging Susanne away from him! As Felix warms to his companion, can Adelaide win this battle for his heart? Based on the hit novel.

2 STARS - IT WAS OKAY

MY REVIEW:

I couldn't really put my finger on it, but this webtoon got boring after a while. There's a clear villain (and some minor ones), and the main characters know that they must get rid of her to solve their problems. Maybe because the essential plot was so clear cut from the get-go that it ruined the mystery and foreshadowing that the authors were trying to convey?

I started skipping around chapters after I got to chapter 35 and didn't feel like I missed much of the plot in between. The art was really pretty, which was probably most of the appeal that kept me reading the webtoon.

Title: Let Me Eat You... Please?
Author: Rico Sakura
Chapters: 5 chapters
Publication: 2018
Summary from Renta:

"I don't mind being your dog at all."

Ever since Akira started at that school, rumors have been flying around about the class loner, Yukiharu Kumagaya. One day, Akira gets paired up with Kumagaya in gym class. Somehow, Akira seems to have struck a chord with him and the alleged badass is in love. He does whatever Akira tells him, following him around like a pet dog or a duckling... He's nothing like the rumors said! Not just that, he keeps getting jealous and trying to get more than friendship out of Akira. Sometimes, he's just so handsome, it even makes Akira blush. Poor Akira sure attracted a lot of trouble... And yet, he still somehow can't bring himself to leave Kumagaya alone...

A high-school romance between the calm, devoted, and dog-like "Yuki" and his little master!

3 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

I'm always a sucker for giant puppy semes and their soft-hearted ukes! This was very fluffy and cute! There's not a lot of character development since it's just one volume, but I liked how they eventually communicated their problems.

Title: I Became a Villain Daughter
Author: Kuroda Yuzuki & Koura
Chapters: 7 chapters
Publication: 2019
Summary from Manga Updates:

On her 15th birthday, Hinase Kaede, a young girl who was working as a part-timer, perished in a traffic accident. Upon her death, a self-proclaimed “God” appeared, declaring that Kaede would be brought back to life. However, Kaede’s happiness was short-lived and her soul was thrown into Erika, the villainess of an otome game! In the original game, Erika became a saint candidate alongside the heroine, committed evil deeds over the course of the candidacy, and ultimately faced condemnation. Thus, Kaede decides that she will not get close to the main characters of the game so as to avoid the bad end, but yet——?

This is the long-awaited fantasy story of a villainess who makes every effort to avoid falling into ruin.

3 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

This had the potential to be so much more! Obviously, there could have been more antics to avoid the capture targets because I think one wasn't even mentioned in the manga. Also, we never got to know what all cheats "god" gave her, and the manga definitely underplayed her cheats. She can talk to animals/demons and was given more powers later, but that was barely covered.

There were so many potential plot points that could lead to different courses of her fate! There's supposed to be a whole journey, but it just ends with talk about it instead. I thought that this manga might be based off of a light novel, but I can't seem to find any, so I guess the manga got cancelled which is a shame.

4.5 STARS - I REALLY LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

This was so sweet and adorable and heartwarming. The cat stole my heart from the first chapter!

Pick this up if you want something to brighten your day. Or if you love pets in general lol. Super fluffy and heartwarming in a way that it makes your heart ache at the circumstances that the cat and his new owner were left in before they found each other.

MY REVIEW:

Title: Trap City
Author: Team JT
Chapters: 34 chapters + 2 extras
Publication: 2018
Summary from Novel Updates:

Trap City, a crime city in which the first, second, and third thing you must beware of is people. Noah Humphrey stole away the boss' money and ran away with it amidst an inconspicuous war between the two greatest groups in the city. Will he live as a toy for the boss Kahliya, or as a bait for the boss Rex, leaders of the rivaling groups? A love story blooms during a critical situation in which you have to do anything in order to survive!

3.5 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

I really liked the overall mood of this webtoon. Noah and Rex and everyone else introduced in here are all jaded and mainly look out for themselves because the city is literally a trap of all the worst things in humanity. They grew up in a dog eat dog world where districts are run by corporate gangs, and it was tough to survive as orphans.

Noah was trapped as on one of the big boss's (Kahliya) lover, so he took a chance to run away with his money and had to deal with the fallout as best as he could, which was becoming the bait to lure Kahliya out for Rex's revenge. Of course, this is a romance webtoon, so feelings get involved even though Noah and Rex keep trying to rationalize their feelings because they both have different purposes. Watching all of the characters try to figure out who to trust and finding out how fucked up some of them are because of their history was really entertaining.

The art was great, the little chibis were cute and funny, the smut was hot, and the plot was good. If it went a little longer, I think it could have fleshed out some of the side characters, which would have helped with the climax. Other than that, this was a nice, somewhat quick webtoon to read.

Mini Reviews: Lick Me, Like Me; Gosan no Heart; Ookami Papa wa Hitsuji Tsura Shite Yatte Kuru

Title:
Lick Me, Like Me
Author: R.erun & Riffle
Chapters: 71 chapters
Publication: 2018
Summary from Goodreads:
Jooin is a young vet that charms pets and owners alike at his animal clinic. When a puppy and kitten are dumped at his door, he decides to raise them as his own. With love and care the furballs quickly become full-grown ‒perhaps a bit too much as they’re now two… hunky humans?! When your pets are this eager, it takes being a ‘pet lover’ to a whole new level!

3 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

Based on the summary, I thought this was a love triangle or harem type of webtoon with both pets vying for their owner's attention. Well, it was kind of both? They're poly! I got too used to reading about love triangles that I completely forgot that there's another option: every gets together.  He gets with both of them, and of course, there are other guys interested in him as well. Half of the plot seemed to be about his pets being insecure about their relationship with him since so many guys were after him. I mean, it's understandable; they're in a new relationship and were also new to the human world and didn't know much about society.

I like Jooin's sister as well. She's got that overbearing noona vibe because she's used to taking care of Jooin since he was young and isn't afraid to admit that her own husband is weird lol. I would have liked to see her husband though to see their dynamic.

I like the extras as well. I'm glad that the panther gets some more screen time in the extras because he was an interesting character.

Title: Gosan no Heart
Author: Ogawa Chise
Pages: 154
Publication: 2012
Summary from Novel Updates:
"Why don't you date me?" And that's how Miki started going out with Udou, from next door's classroom, who was fighting with his ex-girlfriend. It was because of a whim, just a "game". But being with Udou, he started getting comfortable? During the sex, Udou took control of him with tricks, making him tremble in pleasure. Tender caresses, sweet passion? What happened to my body? Damn, I'm not like this. A traditional boyfriend, and a boy who likes to flirt. A story of pure and immoral love between high school students.

3 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

Look, I'm a sucker for fake relationships that turn into real ones, and the main story portrayed it beautifully. Miki starts to fake date Udou to get his clingy ex-girlfriend off of his back, but as they get to know each other more and have sex, Miki starts realizing his feelings and can't compute because he's a flirt lol.

The art's really nice, the boys are interesting, and the plot was well executed.

There's two other oneshots at the end, which were also hot and sweet.

Title: Ookami Papa wa Hitsuji Tsura Shite Yatte Kuru
Author: Kurusu Haiji
Pages: 178
Publication: 2016
Summary from Manga Updates:
Tatsumi vowed to never start a relationship with a dad. But, after meeting his junior colleague, Yuto (a sweet single dad), the idea of the three of them spending time together seems like something he might want. Tatsumi decides to break it off before he gets too attached. One night, he tries to hit on Yuto to drive him away, but it unexpectedly works!

3.5 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

This manga is about found families. It was heartwarming to see Tatsumi overcome his childhood trauma issues through interacting with Yuuto and his son.

I liked how straightforward Yuuto was, and how they actually communicated with each other to prevent unnecessary misunderstandings. However, his test near the beginning was a bit too extreme. Other than that, he's a great dad and partner.

But the real star was his son, Ritsu! He's so adorable and lovable! Any panel with Ritsu (and his new friend) was just so fluffy and sweet. There's also a spin-off sequel about Tatsumi's coworker, Yura, which is pretty cute but a little darker (Sensei wa Butchozura Shite Yatte Kuru by Kurusu Haiji). It also has a chapter about Ritsu and Kanata as high schoolers, which was super cute.

3 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

This is a feel good, fluffy, slice of life novel, and for good reason! Azuza ended up dying from overworking and reincarnated as a witch in a new world. She decided to learn from her past mistake and made sure to live a more relaxing, fulfilling life from now on. It's just that she suddenly became famous, and with fame came a lot of problems and people. Luckily, she still sticks to her priorities and makes sure to not overwork herself or anyone else who comes into her life.

It's a quick and cute read if you want a relaxing slice of life book to break up all of the dramatic novels you read recently like I did lol. I just need to pick up the second book soon lol.

Title: I'm No Match For Him
Author: Toribun
Chapters: 60 chapters
Publication: 2016
Summary from Goodreads:
"Do you really understand what kind of place an all boy school is?" To scare this teacher away I pushed him down on the infirmary bed, but... how did I end up under him!?

3 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

The beginning was a little too extreme (who does that to a teacher just because he didn't get a reaction he wanted?), but it got better after that.

This is a teacher x student relationship. If that's not your thing, don't read it. If you remember that this is just fiction, it's a pretty good read.

The webtoon really shows Kasuki's growth as a person. He's impulsive and rude and doesn't like teachers at first, but through repeated interactions with Kenji, he starts opening up and becoming honest. They're actually pretty bad at communicating in the beginning, so it was nice to see how they slowly got better at talking to each other and apologizing for not listening and such.

Kenji doesn't really have much character growth, but I think it's because he's an easy going, go with the flow type of guy, so he not much bothers him except for when he accidentally hurts Kasuki's feelings. However, there are lots of incidents that shows just how serious he is about his relationship with Kasuki. Overall, this webtoon is a nice mix of fluff, romance, and smut lol.

4.5 STARS - I REALLY LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

I don't even know how to describe how much I loved this book. The characters were amazing; they were all broken and realistic and trying to deal with their own problems. The writing was phenomenal--raw and surprisingly witty. And the plot was somewhat predictable, but it didn't detract from the story because the characters and writing was completely engaging.

I definitely recommend this book.

Title: Sold

Summary taken from goodreads:
Lakshmi is a thirteen-year-old girl who lives with her family in a small hut on a mountain in Nepal. Though she is desperately poor, her life is full of simple pleasures, like playing hopscotch with her best friend from school, and having her mother brush her hair by the light of an oil lamp. He introduces her to a glamorous stranger who tells her she will find her a job as a maid in the city. Glad to be able to help, Lakshmi journeys to India and arrives at “Happiness House” full of hope. But she soon learns the unthinkable truth: she has been sold into prostitution.
An old woman named Mumtaz rules the brothel with cruelty and cunning. She tells Lakshmi that she is trapped there until she can pay off her family’s debt—then cheats Lakshmi of her meager earnings so that she can never leave.
Lakshmi’s life becomes a nightmare from which she cannot escape. Written in spare and evocative vignettes, this powerful novel renders a world that is as unimaginable as it is real, and a girl who not only survives but triumphs.
4 STARS - I REALLY LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

The writing style makes it a quick read, but it takes a while to get through it since you're always stopping to savor and absorb the words.

And the story is an incredible account of how sex slavery is so widespread and difficult to stop, with subtle insights at how patriarchal society is in Nepal and India and how difficult it is for women there.

Lakshmi is my hero.

It's a cute story with pretty art. More of a slice-of-life type of manhwa with a slow pace, so don't expect anything rash and crazy.
