APRIL: Parental Visit, Stress Hives, Second Covid Shot, Visit the Parents, Surgery Follow-up

April passed by in a blur.

During the first weekend of April, my parents came up to visit. We went out to eat dim sum for the first time in over a year, which was great. There was a new bubble tea place nearby, so we tried a variety of their fruit teas since it was buy 5 get 1 free, and there were six of us lol. The next day, we went grocery shopping at the Asian store with our parents; they hadn't gone shopping up here since last year, so they really stocked up on everything. Then, we bought more bubble tea before the parents headed back home to Warner Robins.

For the past few months, I noticed that I was having an allergic reaction to something because I kept on breaking out into hives all over my body. At first, I thought it was something in my bathroom since I kept on breaking out during and/or after I took a shower at night. Then, I noticed that my shower liner had some mold at the bottom, so I threw it away and replaced it with a new one. I also replaced my loofa and threw out my soap bar since I knew it was over a year old. I also started using a new body wash that came with a body lotion set I bought a couple of months ago. After making all of those changes, I noticed that I stopped breaking out into hives.

However, the hives started coming back after a couple of weeks. I couldn't figure out what was wrong, especially since I kept on breaking out into hives in the middle of my shower. At first, Kyle thought it maybe my shower curtain also contained mold, and we planned to wash it that weekend, but then I realized that I was breaking into hives whenever I was really tired from staying up late or thinking about work too much.

Then Shelle reminded me that she used to break out into stress hives when she worked at her old job because the workload was too much for just her alone. That was one of the main reasons why she quit her job because management kept on telling her that they were planning on hiring more people to her team so that her workload would be less, but months passed, and they still hadn't hired anyone. After I took a couple more showers, I realized that I would inevitably think about all the things I needed to do for work and started getting anxious. Then, I would start breaking out into hives, so I finally figured out that I have stress hives. Yay... lol.

Realizing that I have stress hives kind of made things easier. I started trying to get a better work/life balance and to stop working at reasonable hours. I'm trying to go to bed earlier, especially on weekends so that I'm less sleep deprived.

However, not long after I started trying to prevent my stress hives, Anita (my manager and mentor) told me that she was leaving the company. Then, my hives came back immediately. Luckily, she gave us three weeks before she left, so we spent a lot of time going over the transition period, so that we would be better prepared for when she leaves. I also told her and Irene (my previous and current manager) about my stress hives, so they know that I already have a lot on my plate and are trying to help me from going crazy from my workload lol.

Shelle, Kyle, and I also got our second Covid shot right before driving down and visiting the parents for the weekend. Everyone we talked to told us that they either felt fine or terrible for a couple of days, so we were prepared to feel terrible all weekend with our parents taking care of us lol. Luckily, we mainly were just tired for a day and had mild symptoms. For some reason, I became nauseous whenever I ate too much the next day. Other than that, it wasn't too bad lol.

The following Monday, I had my ear and nose surgery follow-up appointment. I had to do that nasal spray twice a day for a month, and I was ready to find out if I still needed to do the spray. Luckily, my doctor said that both my ear and nose were healing really well, so I didn't need to use the spray anymore!

So yeah, April was a blur of ups and downs. What a rollercoaster lol.

Mini Reviews: Stuttering Big Boss’s White Moonlight; The Struggles of Being A Mother of Villains; After Being Transported into a Book, I Adopted the Villain

Title: Stuttering Big Boss’s White Moonlight
Author: 南陵一别
Chapters: 68 chapters + 8 extras
Publication: 2020
Summary from Novel Updates:

Cheng Chu always thought that she and Gu Miao would be married only in name. It was a business marriage that looked like a perfect match. Until a car accident happened and Gu Miao protected her firmly. At the last moment of his life, Cheng Chu heard him confess his feelings.

After waking up again, Cheng Chu returned to the high school era. She discovered that the autistic and stuttering boy in the class turned out to be her newlywed husband, the big businessman in the future.

She wants to compensate him well.

* In high school, Cheng Chu was the dream of many boys. Gu Miao stayed hidden in the darkness, knowing that he was unworthy of her, but the delusion in his heart still grew like weeds.

He thought it was a bitter and hopeless crush after all. Until that afternoon, when the bright sunshine flooded the classroom, the girl stood at his desk and asked with a smile: “Will you sit at the same table with me?” *

** ” Mr. Gu Miao, would you like to marry Ms. Cheng Chu? Love her and be loyal to her, no matter if she is poor, sick, or disabled, until death.” the pastor asked on the stage.

But the bridegroom did not answer for a long time.

In the hotel, the clothes are fragrant and the shadows are gathered, and the dazzling crystal lights reflect the dazzling light.

The most prestigious person in the whole city, Mr. Gu, who was usually indifferent and decisive, his eyes reddened, and it took a long time for him to say “I- I- I do.” **

2.5 STARS - IT WAS OKAY

MY REVIEW:

I know that the author uses the weather to describe the tone and atmosphere, but it gets tiring reading about the cold wind or leaves falling all of the time. Seems like it's only winter because that's the best season to describe the characters' moods.

The plot is very similar to Please Confess to Me and Guide To Raising the Sick Villain, but I prefer those two novels better because they were written less flowery.

Title: The Struggles of Being A Mother of Villains
Author: Da青蛙
Chapters: 122 chapters
Publication: 2018
Summary from Novel Updates:

After Xiao Yu died, the system said it would give her a second chance at life.

Xiao Yu smiled brightly and accepted the offer. After she transmigrated, she just wanted to point her middle finger at the system.

It didn’t mention that the original host was nearly paralyzed.

It didn’t mention that the original host was a mother.

It didn’t even mention anything about the original host’s child being not only a villain……but the female villain and the male villain being both her children.

Lying on the hospital bed, as she looked at the little boy in front of her, Xiao Yu’s face was plastered with confusion.

The system: How dare I mention this!

2 STARS - IT WAS OKAY

MY REVIEW:

It's only been a few days since I finished reading this novel, and I already forgot that I read this book. It's not that memorable after you finish reading it. Overall, the book was pretty entertaining because shameless Xiao Yu's arguments were funny, but that's about it.

Title: After Being Transported into a Book, I Adopted the Villain
Author: 甜腻小米粥
Chapters: 86 chapters + 2 extras
Publication: 2019
Summary from Novel Updates:

When Shen Yu woke up, he had accidentally gone into a ridiculous dog-blood novel.

In the novel, he is an unfortunate cannon fodder character:

– dead father and mother

– his fiancée had run away

– he is disabled (in a wheelchair)

– he lives a lonely life in a 20,000-square foot mansion.

Later, in order to compete for the female lead, he died under the opposition.

In order to save his life, Shen Yu had to stay as far away as possible from the leading and supporting roles and concentrate on enjoying the luxury life.

As a result, one day, the servant brought a 10-year-old villain with bruised eyes: “Sir, this is the orphan of Tang’s family.”

Shen Yu: “…”

Shen Yu decided to adopt the small villains and change his fate.

Ten Years Later.

The villain pushed Shen Yu to the corner: “Who is that woman?”

Shen Yu: “… Who do you say?”

The villain: “The woman who seduced you at last night’s banquet!”

Shen Yu: “…”

The villain: “Hehe, I’m going to kill her.”

Shen Yu: “My son… That’s the female lead you forgot by the lake…”

2.5 STARS - IT WAS OKAY

MY REVIEW:

At first, it was interesting reading about Shen Yu raising Tang Li and trying to prevent him from turning into a villain. However, the middle of the book starts getting frustrating because of Shen Yu.

In the beginning, he was scared of his destined ending, but at least he was proactive and tried to teach Tang Li to be a better person. But after the book's plot starts rolling, Shen Yu becomes a straight up passive coward. He's too scared of his potential future, but he keeps on choking up and not clarifying anything. He's afraid of loneliness, but he doesn't ask for help. He's too afraid to ask about anything because he's afraid of hearing people's answers. He just passively waits for things to happen until Tang Li comes for him. It was so frustrating to read and got boring after a while.

Also, the Yi Heng part was so dissatisfying. It seemed like he was going to play a bigger part in the story near the end because of how he was introduced in the beginning, but he's basically just a cameo near the end of the story. I felt like there was a lot of wasted potential for that plot point.

Shows I'm Currently Watching: Treasure Map, Kingdom: Legendary War, Road to Kingdom, Going Seventeen 2021

Whoops, it's been over a year since I've made one of these posts! This post is all about online shows I've been watching recently.

Treasure Map

TMap started up again! Shelle and I have been looking forward to the new season since the first season was so good. And the season started off strong with them filming a super cringy drama lmao. I loved it and how they reacted in the BTS episode afterwards lol. We're actually like a month behind on the episodes because it's been busy keeping up with all of our shows in between everything else lol.

Kingdom: Legendary War

I've been excited about Kingdom for the past few months once I found out that Stray Kids and Ateez were going to be contestants along with DBSK being the hosts. Even though there were a lot of scandals with the contestants leading up to the premiere (I'm still sad that Hyunjin couldn't participate), the show really lived up to its hype! Shelle and I wait every week to watch each new episode. The stages are so creative, the music remixes are dope, and the members are so talented! I was surprised at how much I remembered and loved BTOB's songs and its members, and now, Shelle and I became lowkey Ikonics because of Bobby (he's adorable!) and how the whole group is so chill lol.

These are some of my favorite stages so far. Ateez really came through and worked their hardest to improve their rankings. I freaking love the story and props they used! Those break dancers were a nice twist, too. Ateez really owns the prirate theme lol. Also, I never knew that I needed Hongjoong in rimless glasses with a gentlemanly scum/pirate look, but I am here for it.

Ikon put their own spin on Ateez's song, Inception, and they blew it out of the water! I loved the Inception theme and the group dance part was so cool! The stage movement in the beginning was so nice! Also, Bobby's move at the end after the ending fairy part was funny and 100% a Bobby move lol.

Stray Kids combined two of their songs, God's Menu and Side Effects, and it was amazing! The stage was dark and creepy and fit the mood so well. I thought the members used the stage really well. And the dance, especially the part where a bunch of people are underneath the blanket, was ingenious! I loved Felix's part. That deep voice paired with that cute face... the contrast is too big lol.

Shelle and I even downloaded the app so we could vote for our favorite teams lol. The show's almost over. I'm so sad! :(

Road to Kingdom

This is actually the prequel to Kingdom: Legendary War, where the winning group got to participate in Kingdom. Even though we knew the winner was The Boyz, Shelle and I wanted to watch the show since we were really impressed with the performances in Kingdom: Legendary War. We've watched the first few episodes so far, and I'm liking the groups and performances. They really used the stage dimensions well.

Going Seventeen 2021

After almost two months of delays/hiatus, GoSe is back! I'm still disappointed that they moved their release days from Monday to Wednesday. I really liked how I started off my work week with GoSe in the evening. Now, I kind of forget that new episodes come out on Wednesdays until I see the YouTube notification on my phone. Either way, I'm loving the episodes so far. The members are hilarious as always.

Mini Reviews: My Son is a Reborn Villain; Low IQ Supporting Female, Waiting for Death Online; Quick Transmigration with Female Lead Aura

Title: My Son is a Reborn Villain
Author: 余书乔
Chapters: 134 chapters + 9 extras
Publication: 2020
Summary from Novel Updates:

Chi Wen’s short life has been bumpy. Ever since he could remember things, he was already living in the orphanage, growing up without a family. Later, he entered the entertainment industry and became a first generation film emperor. However, he finally ended up in ruin. In the end, Chi Wen jumped off the top floor of a building, but did not expect that he would get a chance to open his eyes again…

Back to his infancy, Chi Wen coldly looked at the woman who was laughing s*upidly in front of him. He waited, waited until the moment she finally abandoned him.

Fu Yuanruo was transmigrated as the cannon fodder in the novel ‘First Generation Movie Queen.’ When she first transmigrated, it happened to be the plot point when the malicious cannon fodder tried to frame the female lead for the last time. After that, her evil deeds would be exposed. The whole netizens mocked, and her father angrily drove her out of the house. A former wealthy and pampered young miss fall into the mud and finally died after accidentally falling into the water…

Because of the high popularity of the original book, the author used the daughter of the original female and male lead as the protagonist for the second book. The villain who had been against the main couple of this sequel also met his just end and died tragically. After his death, the female lead let out some vague words that made readers speculated that this villain was the illegitimate son of the prequel’s cannon fodder.

After recalling the plot, Fu Yuanruo stared at the pregnancy report in her hand. She was torn: should she give birth or not?

3 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

I loved the family interaction. Wen Wen is such a tsundere with his mom lol. Their antics were so cute and sweet. You can really feel their affection for each other.

I really hated the female and male leads in the actual novel because they kept on appearing in front of Fu Yuanruo to brush up their sense of existence and to act like victims, which was so annoying. If they just left her alone, they wouldn't have their ending as bad.

This book focuses more on family, so the romance is very slow and only appears more towards the second half of the book. Overall, a cute, sweet book about family.

Title: Low IQ Supporting Female, Waiting for Death Online
Author: Wei Ke
Chapters: 133 chapters
Publication: 2019
Summary from Novel Updates:

Every novel has a low IQ supporting female that serves as a foil to the female lead’s good and beautiful sides. She’s the stepping stone on the path of love between the male and female leads, destined to live her life doing s*upid things until her tragic end.

One day, all of the villainous supporting females came to their senses. They began to rebel! And quit! For the sake of world order, the System found a human to take their place.

World 1: The female lead risks her life to shield the male lead while the supporting female quakes in a corner (and watches the show)

Male Lead: ?? So you never loved me.

Supporting Female: He finally found out, looks like my job was a success. The end of the year bonus is mine!

Male Lead: ?!

A fun and breezy quick-transmigration story~

4 STARS - I REALLY LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

I really liked this book! The protagonists usually want to change the plot once they transmigrate into a story, but Ye Wei is an outstanding employee who wants to stick to the plot! She becomes so great at being a vicious supporting female character that it's ingrained in her bones. She just wants to get enough points to get a chance of winning the Chinese Medical System so she can waken up from her vegetative state and not make her parents sad anymore.

Every arc was great. I definitely didn't notice the tragedy tag when I looked into the novel, so I didn't know that every arc had a bad ending, but it was so good! Wei Wei played her part TOO well lol. The ending after she woke up was also pretty unexpected.

I liked how it was kind of open ended and how she continued to work as a supporting female character. I'm just confused on how it actually worked? Like, does her time stop when she gets transmigrated into a new world, or what does her original body do when she transmigrates? Does she get paid real money now or does her payment still only work in the transmigration workplace?

The author wrote another book in the same franchise called Quick Transmigration with Female Lead Aura, which looks pretty funny, so I ended up reading it next lol. (Spoiler alert, I did lol)

Title: Quick Transmigration with Female Lead Aura
Author: Wei Ke
Chapters: 148 chapters
Publication: N/A
Summary from Novel Updates:

Jiang Nian used to be an actress. One day, she died and became a quester for the Lord God. Her task is to collect aura of a female lead and prevent each world from collapsing.

It’s just that every time there is a lot of twists and turns, however, the most troublesome thing for Jiang Nian is that once the female aura rises to 60, it won’t rise anymore! What will Jiang Nian have to do to get a breakthrough?

4 STARS - I REALLY LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

I've never read such a shameless, money-grubbing, confident female lead, and I loved her!

The first two arcs were pretty entertaining because Jiang Nian has such a unique way of thinking. She wants to follow along with the story plot, so even though she outwardly does something, she's really thinking about how much money she's gaining or losing lmao.

The third arc was my favorite because Jiang Nian turned the first two arcs into idol dramas that shocked the whole entertainment industry. That and her band of little brothers and how they had to scrape and beg for money to get funds for filming was HILARIOUS. I was laughing at almost every chapter!

The other arcs were pretty funny, too, but I'm sure some stuff got lost in translation since I was machine translating towards the second half of the book. If some kind soul finishes translating this book, I will definitely read it again because I love Jiang Nian and how her one true love is gold lmao.

Mini Reviews: Mizutama Honey Boy vol. 1, Transmigrating Into The Male Lead’s Villainess Older Sister, After Rebirth I Became Spoiled

Title: Mizutama Honey Boy vol. 1
Author: Ike Junko
Chapters: 52 chapters + oneshot
Publication: 2014
Summary from Manga Updates:

Mei Sengoku is an independent girl and captain of her high school kendo club who enjoys helping others in need. This has earned her a lot of admirers among the girls at her school, as well as a guy named Shirou Fuji well-known at school for his girly way of speaking and gestures. When Shirou asks Mei to go out with him, she simply rejects him, but he comes back the next day and tells her he's not going to give up on her so easily.

2.5 STARS - IT WAS OKAY

MY REVIEW:

I feel like this is a mix of Special A and Maid-sama where the main girl is book smart but slow on romance while the male lead is generally OP but quirky. The upside is that Shirou is upfront about his feelings from the get-go, and Mei is pretty quick to realize her growing feelings. However, just from knowing that this series is 10 volumes long, I can already tell that there will be a lot of love triangles, misunderstandings, and slow to confess feelings about to occur just from seeing how Mei currently acts. The fact that Shirou isn't afraid to say misleading things to guys to diffuse situations is pretty funny, too.

However, I've read enough shoujo manga to know where this series is going to go, and I'm not interested enough in the characters to read about their relationship journey at the moment.

Title: Transmigrating Into The Male Lead’s Villainess Older Sister
Author: Zhí Dēng Yè
Chapters: 86 chapters + 3 extras
Publication: N/A
Summary from Novel Updates:

Siyu transmigrated into a manhua and became the male lead’s half-sister. The sister had a sickly fragile body, one that couldn’t even withstand a gust of wind. It’s a pity that her heart was so vicious. Over and over, she tried to kill the male and female lead. Until finally she was hated by all, deserted by everyone close, cursed by people, and died miserably alone in the rain one night.

Now the question was: how could she stay alive in peace as a sickly beautiful lady who always vomits blood for no reason and could drop dead at any time? Fortunately, Siyu soon discovered that she could see another person’s luck. So, as long as other people around her had better luck than hers, she could rely on their blessings to extend her life.

As for her….. Siyu looked into the mirror. No matter how she looked at it, the person in the mirror looked like she would die early. It’s not an exaggeration. If you’re talking about bad luck, then everyone else was tr*sh. The wave was stable; no matter how crazy she played, she wouldn’t die! (~ ̄▽ ̄)~

Until she came across a great god who was feared by everybody—

Siyu: “Don’t, don’t come near me QAQ”.

Fifth Master Lu smiled gently whilst the beads on his hand were shattered into pieces, “Run away once more, and I’ll break your leg.”

3 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

I love her brother! Their sibling relationship was so cute and funny. He's so happy to have family that cares about him that he completely disregards his cold rebellious persona and becomes a cute puppy in front of her instead.

I also love how Siyu doesn't give up her previous job of being a webtoon artist and used her drawings to tease her brother. The irony is that he doesn't know it's her, so he becomes her biggest anti-fan because her drawings ruin his icy cold persona lmao.

Title: After Rebirth I Became Spoiled
Author: Shi Liu Yue Xi Gua
Chapters: 75 chapters + 4 extras + 1 side story
Publication: N/A
Summary from Novel Updates:

Su Meng, the tough girl who could change the light bulb and carried the bucket of the water by herself, was reborn as a teenager and got a big golden finger. She wanted to reach the pinnacle of her life by relying on gold fingers, but there seemed to be something wrong?

After rebirth, the daily life of the people around her became like this:

Female Classmate A: Look at that Su Meng, she would cry when even touched. It is really crazy.

Female Classmate B: Su Meng always has a good smell on her body.

Neighbor C: Su Meng from the house next door looks really good, just like a porcelain doll which can easily break when touched.

Neighbor D: Su Meng is so spoiled, who raised her?

The big man raised his lips and smiled evilly, “Your father, I, did what, do you have an opinion?”

2.5 STARS - IT WAS OKAY

MY REVIEW:

The summary is kind of misleading. It was trying to sound cliched and dramatic, but only the male lead said any of those comments lol.

This is by the same author of What If My Brother is Too Good? After finding that out, I can definitely see the similarities in writing.

This book is a slice of life story about how Su Meng gets a second chance of life with a cheat. There's no huge problems or major face slapping moments. I thought her sister was going to be a big villain but was surprised at how mature Su Meng acted to solve that problem. The romance was pretty sweet and realistic. I like how she wasn't rushing to fall in love. However, her gold finger was never really explained, and her uncle's romance in the extras was rushed and seemed more like the author just wanted to quickly write a happy ending for him.

Mini Reviews: This Time, I Will Definitely Be Happy!; Asatte ni Kiss; I'll Like You More Tomorrow

Title: This Time, I Will Definitely Be Happy!
Author: Saiki Riko & Fujimaru Mamenosuke
Chapters: 26.5 chapters
Publication: 2017
Summary from Manga Updates:

“Wait for me, Louisa.”

Those were the words that the hero, Graham, said to me before he set off to defeat the demon king. Graham who is both my childhood friend and lover. But, I have no intention of waiting. In fact, I have the memories of my past three lives, and in all past three lives, I have been the hero’s childhood friend and lover. However, all past three heroes always found other women and never came back to me! That’s why I will no longer waste my time waiting for the hero to come back, this time I will definitely be happy!

3 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

Based on the summary, I was expecting a romcom about a girl getting over her hero ex, but I was mislead.

The first volume is exactly like as how the summary states: After the her lover leaves to go on his hero journey to defeat the demon king, Louisa immediately packs up and leaves for the capital to forget about Graham and try to live her life to the fullest with a new job and new friends. However, there's a lot of foreshadowing in her dreams that she can't figure out, and the biggest surprise is that Graham comes back for her! She's confused and trying to figure out what to do as more surprising events unfold.

I loved that this manga is a different take on so many genres and tropes like reincarnation, what happens after you defeat the demon lord, politics, and more. Also, that epilogue was perfect. I couldn't have wished for a more happy ending because they deserved it!

Title: Asatte ni Kiss
Author: Fumikawa Jimi
Chapters: 5chapters
Publication: 2017
Summary from Manga Updates:

Hase Akihisa was bullied for being an otaku, the chance to change his appearance and start anew in a different school appeared when his father had to transfer.

Going around the school, he found a volume of his favorite manga and got so entranced he didn't notice the owner of the manga, Onoozuka Yuu, was right there and saw him on full otaku mode. Akihisa thought he had blown his cover but Yuu was unexpectedly nice to him and they soom became friends.

All was well until Akihisa became puzzled by the fact Yuu would randomly kiss him without saying anything.

4 STARS - I REALLY LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

This was so cute! I loved how Akki kept on complimenting and accidentally making Yuu fall for him with his genuine sincerity and cute faces. His absolute obliviousness was hilarious. Poor Yuu didn't stand a chance.

Title: I'll Like You More Tomorrow
Author: Ina
Chapters: 3 chapters

MY REVIEW:

This was super cute and super short! I love how Kang Chanyoung slowly wore Do Jihwan down with his friendship at first. The art is nice, too.
