I read PAPER TOWNS by John Green around two years ago and really liked it. This was when I first got into book blogging and did not know just how great of an author he is in the community, so I was surprised to find so many blogs proclaiming their love towards John Green as I got more involved in book blogging.

And...I don't know. I knew that I should read his other books, but I never had the money or time to go the library to read his other books or I never was in the deep contemporary mood to ever want to read his books. And I guess all of the hype towards his books also detracted me from reading them because of my high expectations. For a while now, a lot of the overly hyped books that I've read have turned out to be a disappointment. Most of them weren't bad, but they weren't as great as I expected them to be. So I'm afraid that my expectations of all of John Green's books are so high that I will inevitably be let down once I read them.

I'm hoping that all of my friends are right and that I will absolutely love them once I do get around to reading them though. :)

3.5 STARS - I LIKED IT ENOUGH

MY REVIEW: 

After hearing so many praises for this trilogy, I'm still confused as to why I didn't enjoy it as much as my friends did. It might have been because of my high expectations or it could have been because I'm starting to get really tired of love triangles no matter how well-played they are or it could just be because of the frame of mind I was in while reading this book.

I think it was a combination of all three.

My friends really liked the trilogy and kept on telling me to read it since it was so good, which was ironic because I'm the bookworm of the group and I had yet to read the one book that they really enjoyed. And I could totally see why they liked PERSONAL DEMONS so much.

Frannie was an awesome character. She could defend herself both mentally and physically. She had her strengths and she had her faults. And even though she was special, she wasn't a complete Mary Sue.

Luc was definitely interesting. Reading about both his and Frannie's personal growth was really amazing, and while Gabriel didn't play as huge of a part as Luc did, he was still essential to the plot. However...I still didn't like the love triangle between them all.

I mean, yeah, I can see Frannie's indecision since she had an angel and a demon both after her heart for their own reasons... but still. I think I wasn't that interested because I knew that she was going to spend most of the book torn between having to choose someone. I was proven wrong, because she actually did choose someone, but the other one is still around, and this is a trilogy so. Enough said.

But the plot was definitely original. It didn't have any surprising plot twists, but it diverge from my original expectations of the storyline, and the ending part was also unexpected.

I would like to say that I wasn't in the right frame of mind for reading this kind of book when I started because I was more in the mood for something action-y, but I would be lying because PERSONAL DEMONS did have plenty of action and suspense in it. I guess the love triangle turned me off. I think I didn't want to read anything that focused so heavily on love at the time, which was why I zipped through Darren Shan's ZOM-B so quickly in between reading this book. Or it could be that I'm finally slowly becoming disinterested with paranormal romance now since it has been a while since I've read any.

I don't know. College has made it difficult to find time to read when all you want to do is laze around and watch YouTube videos in your free time. :P

So, I got back from Momocon Sunday night, but I was too tired and lazy to bother updating -- if you couldn't tell. :P

There's something about breaks that makes me entirely too lazy to update. Like, I'll have all of the time in the world, so I could easily type something up really quickly and post it, but it doesn't happen. I lose all of my motivation to write anything and end up just avoiding my blog. I'm such a weirdo, lol.

Instead, I'll read and watch a bunch of things, which is good, because I really do need to catch up on a lot of things, but still. There are times in between reading and watching when I don't know what to do (besides catching up on Tumblr, too), and I know that I should be blogging, but I really don't feel like doing it. :\

I don't know. It's like I don't know what to do since I'm not on a time crunch anymore. When I was, I'd also do a bunch of things even though I knew that I shouldn't if I wanted to accomplish my homework and studying on time, but I still did it anyway as a form of procrastination. But now that I'm not really procrastinating on anything, I don't really feel like blogging, which really sucks because I do not like being stressed and on a time crunch and don't want to feel like I can only blog when I'm in those types of situations.

I mean really, who likes being pressed for time all of the time? I don't. I need breaks. LOTS of breaks, lol.

But yeah, Momocon was fun. We ran into some trouble early on, but it didn't detract from the overall enjoyment. I just didn't really think that I would spend almost all of my money in the Dealers Room/Artist Alley. I brought around $150 in cash for the trip and ended up only having around $10 left by the time I got home. D: But that also included the money I spent on food, gas, and Marta tickets.

I got a little flyer saying that there's another anime convention during the summer, so I think I might go with my friends if I can save up some more cash, lol. :)

Just gotta take this Astronomy quiz and sit through the remainder of the class, and then we are gone! Leaving to Atlanta! :)

Last Day at Concessions (This Semester)

I'm surprised that I'm not as tired as I was last week after getting off of work, but then again, I only worked for around six hours today unlike last weekend, which was around 7-11 hours a day. Man, I about died those days! My feet were killing me!

But yeah, we have work tomorrow night until Saturday, but I can't make it because I have my night lab tomorrow night, and I'm going to Momocon with the rest of my friends right after class on Friday. Momocon lasts all weekend, so Tawanda and I definitely won't be able to work at the games since we'll be in Atlanta. :P

I'm kind of sad that this is the last week of the basketball season, because I've bonded with all of my co-workers these last few games, and it's not gonna be the same not being able to see all of them (and goofing off) every week now. A couple of them are trying to get work at the food court, so I might be able to see them, but if they aren't going to work at concessions next semester once basketball season starts again, I'll only be able to see them around campus. :\

Well, I have some of their numbers, so maybe I will hang out with them some time. :)

Anyway, Momocon is only a few days away! I'm excited! This is my first anime convention! The only cosplay I've got is my Ash Ketchum costume that I put together last year for Homecoming Week. I forgot my gloves at home though, so I'm hoping that I'll find a cheap pair somewhere when I'm shopping with Lauren tomorrow. 

I'm a little worried about taking the Marta back to Lauren's house so late at night, but I think it'll be fine. We'll only be doing it for two days anyway. 

And next week is Spring Break anyway, so hopefully, I'll be able to catch up on reading and reviewing! :D And watching movies and maybe a drama or two if I really feel like not catching up on sleep, lol. I just can't wait for Astronomy to be over on Friday so that my weekend can officially start. :)

Wow, this sounds like the story of my life right now, lol. So many books I want to read but don't have the time to do so. :P 

Although, I never realized how many trilogies I've wanted to start reading until just now. Funny how just a few years ago, we were all bemoaning the fact that most books were epically long series and didn't have anything shorter, and now most new book series are trilogies. I guess authors paid attention to the trends after all. :P

Top Ten Series I'd Like To Start But Haven't Yet

Shatter Me trilogy by Tahereh Mafi

I found Tahereh Mafi's blog before she even published her first book, so I was super excited to get a copy of Shatter Me when it first came out. I really had the intentions of reading it as soon as possible, but I don't remember anymore why I still haven't read it yet, especially with the sequel coming out soon, too.

Bloody Jack series by L.A. Meyer

It's got cross-dressing and pirates, my two favorite things ever. How can I not read this series? Plus, I've only heard great things about the books. However, there are already five books out, and they're all pretty thick, so I've been intimidated on reading them ever since I've been running out of time to read.

The Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa

Another series that I heard nothing but good things about but still haven't gotten around to reading. What's worse is the fact that I received a copy for review a couple of months after it was released and still never got around to reading it. -__-" 

The Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo

Gah, I love fantasy books that involve wars and elite fighting styles, and this one's summary does not seem to disappoint. Not to mention, there are powers in this world! Another thing I love (so long as the main character doesn't become a Mary Sue.)

His Fair Assassin series by Robin LaFevers

Assassins! Yet another topic that I love reading about! And yet another super thick book that I feel like I wouldn't be fully enjoying while trying to read on a time-crunch every week. 

Fire and Thorns trilogy by Rae Carson

Another trilogy that I really wish to read! The summary sounds so awesome! And it's fantasy and involves kings and queens, so of course, this is a must-read! (Eventually.)

The Queen's Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner

My sis has been telling me to read this series ever since her friend lent her her books. And if you haven't realized it by now, I love reading fantasy books with royalty.

Ruby Oliver series by E. Lockhart

This is a contemporary series that I've been meaning to read for a while. I've only heard good things about it, and I've read one of E. Lockhart's other book before and enjoyed it, so I'm pretty sure I'll like this series as well. Plus, the books are pretty short, so they'd be quick reads, but I have all but the last book, so I've been meaning to get the last one before I start it...

Jessica Darling series by Megan McCafferty

This is, like, the most popular contemporary series that I've heard of so far from various book bloggers. Probably because the couple actually goes through real situations that many people can sympathize with. All I know is that I bought the whole series on sale for my Kindle and have yet to read it because I don't read ebooks much.

Arkadien trilogy by Kai Meyers

I did not realize that Kai Meyers is a German author until a few seconds ago, lol. But yeah, that just makes me even more eager to read this trilogy because I love reading foreign authors since their writing styles are different from American. Not to mention, this trilogy is about mafias! After reading so many awesome mafia AU's, I'm definitely excited to read this trilogy. Now I just have to wait to find time to read such a thick book. :P
