Learning how to use Photoshop :P

In my Imaging Design class, we're learning how to use Photoshop. It's a pretty fun class. This is what I made today, lol.

I used the clone stamp and added another bear to the original picture and added an evil looking penguin in there. XD

Book Review: Adaptation by Malinda Lo

Title: Adaptation
Author: Malinda Lo
Pages: 400
Publication: September 18, 2012
Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers
Summary taken from goodreads:
Reese and David don’t remember what happened to them after a bird flew into their headlights on the Extraterrestrial Highway--not the resulting car accident and certainly not a bit of the 21 days of care at the military hospital in Nevada. It’s a good thing, the doctors and colonels tell them, that they crashed on a military base, but they won’t tell Reese and David what the extent of their injuries were, or how they were healed. They do tell them they’re not going home, though, until they sign a confidentiality agreement.
When they get home, Reese can’t help but find everything a little weird. Worldwide bird strikes resulting in plane crashes have grounded air travel, David won’t talk to her, and she could swear she’s seen her military doctors around the neighborhood. It’s only when she meets Amber Grey that things in her life begin to really fall apart, and the mysteries of the bird strikes, the military, and her own treatment come together. Reese realizes that she must find out what they did to her in that hospital, but her search for the truth threatens to expose a vast global conspiracy that the government has worked for decades to keep secret.
What if we aren’t alone in the universe? What if the alien is inside us?
4 STARS - I REALLY LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

Wow. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect when I started reading this book, but Reese and David's whole experience definitely captivated me.

The beginning sucked me in. I loved the atmosphere and tension and reading about the slow decay of society as the world was suddenly thrown into chaos because of the bird strikes. It felt like the beginning of an apocalypse, something that I always enjoy watching or reading about.

Unfortunately, after Reese and David get into an accident, the mood changed, and the pace of the book lulled. It took a while before the pace picked up again, and I was surprised by the whole journey that the characters went through by the time I reached the end of the book; the book seamlessly interchanged from apocalyptic to contemporary to science fiction, which, in my opinion, was quite awesome. I love it when genres cross.

I had read Malinda Lo's first book, ASH, when it first came out, so I wasn't surprised that ADAPTATION also is LGBT. I was just glad that the romance (and Reese's coming out) did not detract from the story. The romance played a big part for a while, but it wasn't the only thing that was happening.

Overall, ADAPTATION was an enjoyable read.

Classes

So, it turned out that all Intro Engineering Design lab classes were canceled yesterday. That meant that I had to walk all the way across campus and up a set of stairs at 9:30 in the morning to find out that my first class of the day was canceled. ._.

On the bright side, I made a new friend because of that. John and I ended up spending that extra time just talking and getting to know each other on a couch in the engineering building as we waited for our next class. So that's cool.

Actually, I managed to know at least a few people in all of my classes except for Imaging Design, so I'm really glad about that. I've talked to two of the guys in there before, but I wouldn't even say that we're acquaintances  Hopefully, I'll be able to make some friends in there with time. :)

And dude! Astronomy's turning out to be more work than Shelle and I thought. Our labs are from 6:30-10 at night. On nights when the sky's clear, we'll have to drive out to this park that's half an hour away and watch the sky there with telescopes, which didn't sound that bad until he told us that we were going to freeze, we could hit a deer on the way, if we don't park in the correct area, we would need a towing truck to get our cars out of the ruts, the bugs will eat us alive in the summer, and so on. :O

Since classes just started, we haven't done anything but gone over the syllabus for every class, but even so, I've been super tired and drained afterwards. I don't know if it's because I haven't become adjusted to doing anything but eat, read, and sleep since the break started or if it's because most of my classes are back-to-back, and I basically have to skip lunch until they're all over. Either way, I hope that I become acclimated soon.

Now, I'm going to do something not productive because I don't feel like doing homework yet. :P

Ta!

Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Goals for 2013

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by the Broke and Bookish.

Lol, I turned this into more bookish/blogging goals of 2013.

Top Six Bookish Goals For 2013

1. Read more books.
I started college again today, and I know that I won't have nearly as much time to read until the semester starts winding down in May, but I really want to read more than I did last semester. I barely read more than two books a month back then, and that was counting manga.

2. Write more reviews.
I was really in a reading/reviewing funk a while ago when I started college, so I didn't write as many reviews as I usually did, but I think I'm getting better at expressing my opinions and writing about how I felt about books, so I want to write more reviews! And not just book reviews. Since I've been getting into watching a lot of movies and tv shows now, I want to try to write reviews for those too.

3. Update more.
What can I say? Even though I always feel like I've got nothing to do half of the time, I'm still always busy doing something, and blogging usually isn't a first priority. It's near the top, but blogging about my latest experiences always takes too much time, which always puts me off on writing them since I feel like I could be using that time doing something else...like reading fanfiction, lol.

4. Complete all of my reading challenges.
I think I only completed three out of seven challenges last year, which was not what I was expecting. Yeah, I knew a few of them would be challenging to do (I never have time to listen/pay attention to audiobooks!), but I expected to complete most of them. This year, I'm only challenging myself to four, so I better complete them all, lol.

5. Participate in memes more regularly.
Since I'm usually busy or don't have any inspiration for a lot of memes, I only do them sporadically when I finally have something to blog about. So, this year, I'm going to try to do memes like this more regularly, hopefully doing them all weekly instead of biweekly/monthly, lol.

6. Read more standalone books.
It's ironic that I read so many series/trilogies when I hate having to wait for the next book to be published because of the cliffhangers and the fact that I always end up forgetting many things that transpired in the first book by the time the second comes out. That's why I love reading standalone books where I know that it'll have a final, concluding ending, so I want to read more of those types of books this year, which will be difficult since I have way more series books than I do standalone, lol.

School starts tomorrow!

School finally starts tomorrow, and I'm half dreading it and half excited about it. :\

I'm dreading it because I know that I won't have half as much free time as I do right now because of classes and homework and studying and such. That means that I won't be able to read as much anymore or watch as many things anymore.

On the other hand, I'm excited to start classes and see what we'll do and what I'll learn because I took some random classes, lol. I took Beginner Ballroom Dancing to have one class with my friends, a Shakespeare class with one of my roommates, Astronomy with my sis since we both needed a four-hour lab science class, Multimedia and Intro Engineering Design because it's required in my major, and Beginning Imaging Design because it's a prerequisite for a later class that I want to take next year for my major. So yeah, it's definitely going to be an interesting, busy year. Still can't believe that I signed up for that Shakespeare class since I didn't need it; I just wanted to see if I could handle 17 hours since I only had 14 last semester.

Also, I'm excited to see my friends again. I've barely kept contact with them over the break, but I hardly keep contact with anyone over the break, lol. However, what sucks is the fact that last semester, half of my classes were engineering classes so I mainly know engineers, and this semester, I only have one engineering class, so that means that I'll have to try to make new friends again. Assuming I'll have time to actually talk in class, lol.

Anyway, my sis woke me up around six this morning to finish getting ready to go back to the apartment after dropping my bro off at school this morning, so I'm was super tired by the time we finished putting everything away at the apartment around eight o'clock this morning. That's why I went back to bed to catch a few more hours of sleep since I had stayed up until around four this morning reading Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi. I didn't finish it, because I figured I'd have to stay up all night to do so and knew that I needed some sleep, but yeah, I was still surprised to find out that I managed to sleep until almost noon today.

It's just so odd because there's so much I need to do or should/could be doing, but I wasted four hours on just sleeping this morning. So unproductive, but I knew that I would have burned out eventually on only running on two hours of sleep--that's more of a nap than anything!

But anyway, school starts tomorrow, which means that it'll be harder for me to update--unless I'm procrastinating, lol. Luckily, I don't have Gendered Lives anymore, which means no more papers to write, but I'm dreading that my Shakespeare class will require many papers too. But we shall see! And I can always drop the class if I don't like it/can't handle the hours within the first week, so yeah. I can't wait to start the year.

Later~

Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Resolve To Read in 2013

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by the Broke and Bookish.

Once again, I have been late for this meme, lol. Oh well. Better late than never. :P

All of these books I've had for a while that I've been meaning to read for ages. I mean, I would pre-order them and be super excited to start reading them once I got them, but things came up or there was never any time, and before I knew it, they were stacked up in a TBR pile already halfway forgotten. :\
