Mini Reviews: Villain’s Strategy; O Pretends to be B For The Violent Admiral; Even if I’m a Fake Heiress, I Will Dare to Be Trashy

Title: Villain’s Strategy
Author: 萝卜花兔子
Chapters: 96 chapters + 2 extras
Publication: 2021
Summary from Novel Updates:

The most impressive thing that the timid and cowardly Wen Zhichu has done in his entire life was rescuing two grade schoolers who had ignored the red light and crossed the streets recklessly. As for the result of his one-time bravery, he also sent himself off.

When he woke up again, he discovered that he had transmigrated into a book as a cannon fodder villain who keeps hopping back and forth on the edge of a minefield— ultimately, receiving the ending of sleeping on the streets for offending the protagonist.

Wen Zhichu, who’s been told by his mom since young that he has a delicate body and couldn’t sleep on the streets: !

Just as Wen Zhichu planned to stop participating in this world’s story plot and become an insignificant, transparent character, he accidentally became bound to a villain system. If he didn’t follow the original plotline to cause trouble for the protagonist, he’d be deducted money and forced to sleep on the streets even sooner than the original story.

Wen Zhichu: : )

Wen Zhichu was forced onto the path of a villain. Every time he sees the protagonist’s strong, robust body, even his calves start trembling.

One punch would probably K.O. two of him.

The villain’s mission: Destroy the protagonist’s lunch.

Looking at the protagonist sitting to the side, Wen Zhichu swallowed his saliva, threw a handful of rainbow-colored skittles into the food, and then ran off immediately.

Qin Jiashu: ……

The Villain’s mission: Ruin the Protagonist’s main love line.

Heading to the protagonist’s locker, Wen Zhichu scooped out the mountain pile of love letters inside, leaving behind only his own falsified love letter.

Qin Jiashu, who just happened to see everything after returning from playing basketball: ……

The Villain’s mission: Destroy the protagonist’s belonging.

Holding a needle, Wen Zhichu stealthily arrived at the school’s parking lot and prepared to puncture the protagonist’s car tire.

Who’d expect the utterly unreliable Wen Zhichu would bump straight into the protagonist this time.

Wen Zhichu hastily hid the needle behind his back.

Two of him was not even enough for the other to beat up.

The protagonist raised his hand. Wen Zhichu subconsciously covered his head.

Qin Jiashu patted the front bumper of the car: “Get in, I’ll drive you.”

Wen Zhichu: ? ? ?

All of Qin Jiashu’s bros knew that about the dark and withdrawn, annoying pest in the neighboring class, who came over every few days to cause trouble.

Once Qin Jiashu was buying a sports drink at the store, sure enough, that annoying pest followed over as well. Not surprisingly, that annoying pest snatched away the item that Qin Jiashu wanted to buy in advance and even opened it to take a drink right in front of him.

Qin Jiashu stopped him. Right before they thought he’d teach that annoying as*hole a lesson, Qin Jiashu actually grabbed the already opened sports drink from Wen Zhichu’s hand, tossed his head back, and started drinking it.

Qin Jiashu: Very sorry, but I’ve already reached happy ending.

3.5 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

I loved Wen ZhiChu's interaction with his system! Such a comedic duo!

Title: O Pretends to be B For The Violent Admiral
Author: 公子柔
Chapters: 95 chapters + 5 extras
Publication: 2020
Summary from Novel Updates:

—Breaking News! Admiral Lucas of the Empire has dispatched his men, reportedly to find his date from the hotel last night!

The reporter excitedly asked a question: What would you do once you find them?

Lucas’ eyes glinted coldly: Kill them.

The crowd: ???

Why does he seem different from everyone else…

Gong’s perspective →

There’s nothing the short-tempered Admiral Lucas looks down on more than the whiny and annoying omegas in his life.

A significant other? Will never happen in this lifetime.

However, if he is forced to elaborate… He much prefers the gentle and honest beta secretary, skilled in both combat and academia, who can brew coffee and match clothes for him.

Shou’s perspective →

Luo Ran is Lucas’ secretary, and what he does is the most inhumane job in the entire empire.

He has to wait on the nit-pickiest superior who sits above him, and below him, he has to deal with the entire empire who dare not interact with the admiral, the admiral’s subordinates, coworkers, admirers… etc.

Not only that, but he also has to carefully hide the fact that he’s an omega, as well as his identity as the admiral’s “one night stand”… constantly facing the imminent threat of getting killed at any moment.

Until one day, he accidentally went into heat in front of Lucas, the sweet and lovely pheromone an exact match with the pheromone of the person from that night.

It’s over, he’s about to be killed now.

“How brave of you.” Lucas held the back of Luo Ran’s head, the other arm looped around his waist as he smiled, “Now… I’m going to kill you.”

4.5 STARS - I REALLY LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

Oh, what a wonderful love! The entire Empire ships their love, but the two protagonists in question had no idea lol.

Normally, I would get bored if a book includes too many netizen comments, but the Empire's netizens were great! Their ability to create sugar for their CP was so realistic and logical that even Luo Ran, a silent melon eater to his own CP, was almost brainwashed into believing it. Plus, I still can't get over the super tropey and overdramatic fanfics! They were so bad that they were good lmao.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. Luo Ran and Lucas had the best, equal partnership even before they got together. There was so much trust and care for each other that it just made the misunderstandings between each other even more funny lol.

Title: Even if I’m a Fake Heiress, I Will Dare to Be Trashy
Author: 纪扶染
Chapters: 291 chapters + 21 extras
Publication: 2023
Summary from Novel Updates:

At the age of 12, Shen Yue accidentally fell into a pond while feeding fish. That’s when she realized that her parents were not her real parents, and her five brothers were not her real brothers either. She was just a fake heiress to the Shen family!

Knowing she was destined to lose everything, Shen Yue decided to just lie down and give up. If she was going to lose it all anyway, she might as well just lie down and relax.

“Big brother, is working at the company fun? Let me check it out,” she thought, wanting to enjoy the perks of being a Shen daughter while she still could. Those luxuries would be out of reach soon enough.

“Second brother, is acting fun? Let me give it a try,” she schemed. What? They pay you just to lie still like a corpse? This is a job she had to get!

“Third brother, is that gun realistic? Let me see,” she said, examining the firearm. Not bad, though the recoil is too strong. She’d need to find a smaller one to play with next time.

“Fourth brother, will the teachers be mad if I sneak into your research institute? Let me take a peek,” she plotted, eyeing her handsome professor. A little hugging wouldn’t hurt!

“Fifth brother, that medicine you’re working on smells nice. Mind if I try a little taste…” she asked casually before sampling it. Tastes good! But now my head feels itchy—I better not be growing a brain!

On the day the real heiress returned, Shen Yue’s five brothers shielded her behind them. “Dear sister, can we keep her with us? She’s a bit slow, it’d be dangerous for her out there alone.”

The true heiress scoffed coldly, masking her sly intentions beneath a guise of innocence.

But in the end, she realized this Shen Yue really was quite dim-witted. Oh well, might as well let her stay.

4 STARS - I REALLY LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

The story is set up into three parts. Part 1 is the silly comedy of Shen Yue not really thinking but gradually learning how to get along with her brothers that's depicted in the summary. Part 2 is the bleak and indifferent Shen Yue that was hinted at when recalling her past memories. Part 3 goes back to Shen Yue's silly antics as she tries to reconcile who she really is.

There's a lot of science and sci-fi mentioned throughout the second half. I'm saying all of this because I had no idea what to expect after the first part, so that kind of threw me off for a while. I wanted to read a silly comedy, but ended up with more than I expected. Not too bad because the author was able to go back to the comedy but still maintain its wholesomeness with slices of dark reality to keep you on your toes lol.

Shows I'm Currently Watching: The Beginning After the End, The Brilliant Healer's New Life in the Shadows, From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman

Lol I just realized that it's been a little over a year since I last made one of these posts. As usual, I've mainly been watching anime for the past couple of years. Not sure why I haven't felt the urge to watch any tv shows or movies outside of anime, but there isn't enough time for me to get into another hobby anyway!

Alec and I have been keeping up with some of the bigger spring anime titles this season. Check them out!

CURRENTLY WATCHING:

The Beginning After the End

Leading up to its premiere, this show was hyped up thanks to its large fanbase of the original light novel and manhwa, so I had high expectations for the anime adaptation. Unfortunately, after the first episode aired, there were resounding negative reviews because of the animation quality and condensed explanations of world building, and the reviews kept on getting worse with each episode. But that made me curious to watch the show just to see how bad it was. Since I hadn't read the source material before, I was more open-minded while watching the show.

Overall, it was like a stereotypical isekai anime with an overpowered protagonist made by a B-grade studio. If you didn't know any better or hadn't watched better isekai anime before, it would be your run of the mill spring anime that you only watched once and forget about it afterwards. If you didn't know just how big of a following the light novel and manhwa had, you wouldn't be disappointed by the lack of animation and voice acting that everyone hates. Basically, the more you love the original, the more you hate the adaptation, so proceed at your own risk. Alec and I are still watching it purely for the storytelling lol.

The Brilliant Healer's New Life in the Shadows

After watching The Beginning After the End, the animation quality in this show LEAPS in comparison! Even though it quickly sets itself up with a non-traditional, lone-wolf healer type who eventually grows a harem, the humor and plot made this show entertaining enough that we look forward to watching each new episode every weekend. I also love Carmilla who frequently narrates Zeno's life with hilarious foreshadowing.

From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman

The was an unexpected gem! The summary sounded similar to I Parry Everything, so I kind of expected the same oblivious older main character setting, but Beryl was not! Even though he's humble, he was smart and kind, which is why all of his former students were happy to see him. I expected this to be a harem anime, and thankfully, it's not. Instead, you have nuanced characters with their own motivations and difficulties. I wasn't expecting to like this anime so much, but I think it's my favorite of this season so far. It's just a shame that it's only available on Amazon Prime, and I have to sit through ads to watch it.

Webnovel Review: The Girl Who Wears a Book is Very Salty by You Qian

Title: The Girl Who Wears a Book is Very Salty
Author: You Qian
Chapters: 63 chapters
Publication: 2021
Summary from jjwxc:

An Shu traveled through the book and was reborn as the vicious female supporting character of the heroine. In the end, she was beaten to death by the heroine.

An Shu was a coward and decided to stay away from disputes. She married a dying living dead man and waited to inherit the family business as a young widow.

Not long after she got married, the living dead man who had been in a coma for several years and should have died woke up...

The handsome man pushed her against the wall and said, "Thank you for not abandoning my wife. I am willing to repay you with my whole life.

An Shu's heart was trembling and she froze in place and couldn't move.

Oh no! This part is not written in the book!

Later, the cold-blooded and cruel man in the rumor protected her by his side and was worshipped by everyone.

An Shu saw the male and female protagonists calling her aunt with a humble look, and couldn't help but sigh. She didn't expect that a salted fish could also hold a golden thigh and reach the pinnacle of life.

An Shu didn't know that her golden thigh was because of her that she crawled out of the gate of hell.

The whole text is fictional and full of private settings. Please don't check it.

The male protagonist kills people like crazy, please avoid them.

1V1, no house fighting, simple story, the female protagonist is a cowardly ordinary person, drifting with the flow and without fighting spirit.

4 STARS - I REALLY LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

I liked how realistic An Shu was. An Shu is a girl who transmigrated from peaceful modern times into a cutthroat historic era where it's killed or be killed while everyone is fighting for the throne. She also knows that she transmigrated into a vicious cannon fodder and has a reborn heroine out to get revenge on her. Even before transmigrating, An Shu was a timid people pleaser. She knew from day one that she was not meant for this world she transmigrated to and was always trying to remove herself from the heroine and places of power because she wouldn't even know how she died if she didn't try to get away.

She's kind, soft-hearted, and really just wants to live out the rest of her life in peace in a countryside somewhere far from the capital. It's just hard to do because her high-ranking husband that died in the first life actually wakes up and sets off a ripple of butterfly effects throughout the capital. Instead of changing into a political schemer to deal with these changes, An Shu still stays the same salty fish, and I support that for her! She knew herself and stuck to her guns instead of being reckless or trying to change.

I really liked the ending. I think the author really did both An Shu and her husband justice about what they wanted in life.

DNF Review: Sooner or Later We Will Divorce; The Female Partner of the Last Days is a Scud; After Marrying the Villain, I Became Popular

Title: Sooner or Later We Will Divorce
Author: Luan Yunxia
Chapters: 57 chapters
Publication: 2021
Summary from Wattpad:

Shen Yunyi knew that he was humble and not worthy of Gu Xingjing, so he carefully hid his sincerity, conscientiously acted as a tool, and did not dare to overstep the threshold. Even if Gu Xingjing's brothers warmly accept him, even if Gu Xingjing's family members greet him with care, even if Gu Xingjing himself says he likes him, even if they hold a wedding and get a certificate, even if they are husband and wife, even if everyone thinks they are It's true love. Shen Yunyi has always firmly believed that: sooner or later they will divorce!

***

Gu Xingjing was domineering, unrestrained, and never cared about other people's feelings, but unknowingly gave all his tenderness to the child who picked it up and used it as a shield to deal with the family. After confirming his intention, he launched a fierce offensive, but with little effect.

He took Shen Yunyi to the banquet and announced their relationship in a high-profile manner. Shen Yunyi: "Don't worry, I know this is just an act, so I won't think too much about it." Gu Xingjing: ...I will bear it.

He took Shen Yunyi to the Civil Affairs Bureau to get the certificate, thinking that this time he should know what he wanted. Shen Yunyi: "You can get a divorce whenever you want, and I won't pester you." Gu Xingjing: ...I'll bear it!

The second brother who ran away on the day of the blind date learned that Shen Yunyi was spoiled by Gu Xingjing, regretted it too much, and kicked his boyfriend back to redeem it. Shen Yunyi: "As long as he is willing to divorce-" Gu Xingjing: "Shut up! Unless I die, you don't even want to get a divorce certificate!"

MY REVIEW:

It's your typical blushy, docile shou with a stubborn streak for his gong and arrogant, terrifying gong who is only nice to his shou with lots of side characters to point that out. Not very exciting and stereotypical family drama.

Title: The Female Partner of the Last Days is a Scud
Author: 陆九金
Chapters: 99 chapters + 2 extras
Publication: N/A
Summary from Wattpad:

Knowing that she had transmigrated into a post-apocalyptic novel, Lu Xi practiced a peerless martial art-Scud...

Adhering to the principle that if she can't beat zombies, she can run too. ╭(╯ε╰)╮

Lu Xi was like a fish in water in the last days until he met someone...

"Stop-"

Lu Xi panted with her hips on her hips, and said angrily, "You can even catch up!!"

Smiling slightly, "Oh, maybe it's because I have long legs."

Lu Xi lowered her head and admitted her mistake, "Brother, I won't dare to tease you again."

Chapters 5 and 6 are extra chapters, little angels can skip directly and read Chapter 7

MY REVIEW:

I just couldn't get into the writing style. It was very self-fulfilling and amateurish.

Title: After Marrying the Villain, I Became Popular
Author: 甘洄
Chapters: 91 chapters + 1 extra
Publication: 2021
Summary from Novel Updates:

Xia Wan has transmigrated into a book, and he has somehow become a cannon fodder who was ambushed by the protagonist in the novel.

When he transmigrated, he was in Slag Gong’s engagement banquet and was humiliated.

Xia Wan casually grabbed the tallest, handsome man in the audience and quietly asked for help.

In the silence, it was easy to see the almost top-quality man’s star-shaped eyes and a smile on his lips. He quietly hooked his arms around Xia Wan.

Later, Xia Wan discovered that the handsome man whom he held tightly was protagonist Gong’s brother, Huo Yu, the biggest villain in the book.

MY REVIEW:

The novel felt disjointed, especially at the beginning. The translations were also slightly better than MTL, which probably caused more confusion trying to understand what was happening. After reading halfway through the book, I realized that most of my initial confusion was because of the author's writing style, which likes to skip scenes and refer back to it in the next scene. Although I like to complain that a lot of authors like to over explain events, this was the exact opposite lol. Overall, the characters and plot are pretty typical and tropey. Not a great read but not terrible. I just wanted to quit reading it because I had higher expectations, especially considering this was from Chrysanthemum Garden.
