Webnovel Review: Lovely Allergen by Zhìchǔ

Title: Lovely Allergen
Author: Zhìchǔ
Chapters: 102 chapters + 7 extras
Publication: 2020
Summary from Novel Updates:

Song Yu has three requirements for Yue Zhishi:

– You cannot call me gege in public.

– We won’t do anything together in public.

– You cannot let other people know you live with me.

Yue Zhishi has always been obediently following these rules. They were practically strangers at school. At the opening ceremony, he suddenly collapsed due to an allergy-related asthma attack, sending everything into chaos. At this moment, the student representative Song Yu suddenly stopped speaking…….

That night, a hot post appeared on the school forum.

【Shock!! Our junior high school department male idol and our senior high school department male idol are actually ‘brothers’!】

—————-

Ever since his father brought back a mixed-race baby when he was six years old, Song Yu’s life has been completely entangled by this clingy little guy who couldn’t speak Chinese well.

Le Le who was in kindergarten: Xiao Yu gege, my classmate said today that he has a beautiful sister-in-law. What is a sister-in-law?

Song Yu: His older brother’s wife.

Le Le: No! I don’t want a sister-in-law!

Song Yu: ……..

Le Le: I’ll be your sister-in-law! (Something isn’t quite right…….)

Song Yu: Please study up on Chinese familial relationships.

Le Le: Wait, wait. I’ll be my sister-in-law!

Song Yu: ……

Mouth says one thing but body does the other, cat-like gong x mixed-race, obedient and straight forward puppy-like shou.

5 STARS - I LOVED IT

MY REVIEW:

I definitely wasn't expecting to cry so much when I chose to read this book. The author fleshed out the characters so well that you get swept up in their painful emotions with them.

There are so many good points about this book, but I don't know how to express it well. This list is just the highlights:
  • A healthy, continuously growing relationship full of consent and communication once they get together
  • Super awesome family dynamics full of banter, love, and support
  • Strong female characters with their own goals and ideas (there's even a hint of a wlw couple!)
  • One villainous characters. Everyone is flawed and awkward in their own ways lol
  • The smut was super hot and beautiful
  • Slowly overcoming your fears

MAR: Covid Scares, Concert, Birthday Trip, Farewell Lunch, Movies, Donations, Hanging Out w/ Friends

March started off with our first Covid case in our family. We still don't know where or how Brian got it since he went out a couple of times the weekend before, but he tested positive for Covid and stayed home with a fever and weakness for a week. After he felt better, he took a PCR test and still tested positive for Covid.

Since mom has almost no immune system anymore, she was scared to stay home even though Brian was isolated in his room. As a result, Michelle picked her up in the middle of the week, and she stayed with us until finally Brian tested negative on Saturday. Dad drove up that Saturday night since he had nothing to do and drove mom home on Sun after we ate at I Luv Pho for lunch.

That Saturday night was also our first concert of the year. Eric Nam was in town for his There And Back Again tour, and we originally planned to go in person. However, since the parents were over (and because we were lazy), we decided to watch the livestream in the theater room downstairs. The concert was great! The only problem was that the streaming site kept on having lagging issues, so the audio never completely matched with the video.

The next weekend was the Savannah birthday trip with Alec and his parents. You can read about it here.

The following week was full of interviews. I stayed at Alec's house until Tuesday night since I wanted to accompany him to celebrate Pie day on Monday lol. He made blueberry pie! Check it out!

I also took that Friday to hangout with Archana, since it was her last day with the company, so we planned a farewell lunch. Unfortunately, the day before, Jack found out that his ex-wife died in a car accident and couldn't make it to the lunch. And Erin had an important interview with Salesforce at the time, so she couldn't make it either.

In the end, it was Azeneth, Zach, and me left to get Bezoria with Archana one last time. Afterwards, I took Archana back to her apartment complex so that she could get her monitor from one of her neighbors to bring back to the office. I helped her drop off her equipment at the office, and we went for one last walk around the trail near the building. It felt like we were both saying goodbye to SITA.

I drove her back to her neighbor's apartment so she could spend some time with her since she was flying out the next morning. It was really hard to say goodbye. I think we hugged like 5 times near the end lol.

After I came back home, I was feeling super introverted and sad and told Ebony that I wouldn't make it to her housewarming/birthday party on Sunday because I was in my feelings lol. However, Alec and I had already bought tickets to watch the Jujutsu Kaisen: 0 premiere in theaters on Saturday, so we still went out and had a good time. I really liked the opening and ending songs! The only problem was that there were some kids sitting in the row in front of us who would not stop talking and taking pics of Gojo whenever he appeared, which was kind of annoying.

If you've been following along recently, you'll have noticed that I've been decluttering a lot of stuff for the past few months. That's because we're doing a big purge in the house and planned on donating a lot of stuff to the VVA. For one reason, we've used their services before and really enjoyed the convenience of scheduling a pickup so that they will come to our house and take everything instead of us dropping it off at a location. Two, we don't want to donate to Goodwill or the Salvation Army, which makes a profit off of our business and doesn't have the best moral character with the LGBTQ+ family.

Anyway, we scheduled a pickup the next Friday and asked Alec to come over the night before to help Kyle move the dressers from upstairs to the garage for pickup. In total, we donated two large furniture and six bags of clothes, kitchen appliances/utensils, and gardening items. Not a bad haul at all.

Shanice was also in town for work since that Wednesday, so we offered to let her spend the weekend at our place instead of the hotel. We met up with her for dinner on Friday night at the Battery and ate a bunch of different stuff at Ph'east. Then, we went home and talked until late.

Because Shanice was feeling guilty for overeating and not working out since she came to Atlanta, we went hiking at Olde Rope Mill Park for 2 miles after having chai for breakfast. I didn't know until we got there that it was actually a hiking trail spot with lots of different loops available.

We drove back home to meet up with Michelle and Kyle before heading to Halcyon for lunch. They have a lot of stores and restaurants nearby as well as a food court, where we got Gu's Dumplings, poke, and hotdogs for lunch before walking around and chilling for a bit.

Then, we went to Cristy's Kitchen, which is famous for it's gluten free and vegan foods and bakery for drinks and snacks. Shanice bought a lot of stuff to bring back to Josh since they recently found out that he's allergic to gluten.

We were in a bit of a rush because we had already booked an escape room not long after that at Urban Escape Games. We originally asked Emily if she could come, but her family came to visit, so she wasn't free. Instead, we went back to downtown Woodstock to get dinner with Emily at Salt Factory Pub instead. Overall, it was a very busy day.

We chilled in the morning until Shanice's parents picked her up for brunch before she went back to DC.

I thought our busy weekend was over, but at 9:30PM, Jackie asked if she and Ben could come over. They came up for a double date with friends which was cancelled last minute, so they visited her nephew, Luca, instead. They came over with my bridesmaid's dress, and we talked until 1AM before they drove back home.

Overall, a very busy weekend to end a busy month :)

Book Unhaul 30

Decluttered some more to make room for all of my books on my bookshelves. I really liked the anime when it first came out, but now I'm not as interested in reading more about the characters anymore.

Savannah Trip w/ Alec & His Parents

This weekend/birthday trip was originally supposed to go in a totally different direction! We originally planned on drive to Chattanooga, but it was snowing that weekend, so we changed plans at the last minute to go to Savannah instead to celebrate Alec's mom's birthday.

We drove down to Alec's parents' house Friday night, and then drove to Macon to eat dinner at Kudzu. It was my first time there; it wasn't bad! After dinner, we went back home to sleep early for the drive tomorrow, since it was around 3 hours away.

After a little late start in the morning, we drove to Savannah around 9am after breakfast. We couldn't check-in early, so we had the valet take the car and walked around the area for lunch. It was also super cold and windy that day! The wind chill was crazy at 19mph! Luckily for me, I like the cold, so I was okay unlike Alec and his parents lol.

While looking for lunch, we walked through some of the squares. I just love the layout and all of the greenery in each square.

Since it was so cold, went to Flying Noodle Bar for lunch, since we all wanted something with soup to warm us up. I tried their Kiwi Green Tea, which was fruity and a little too sweet. It became refreshing once the ice melted a little lol.

After lunch, we walked around some more to kill time while waiting to check into our hotel. Because they were preparing for St. Patrick's Day next weekend, they dyed all of the fountains green in Savannah, which was cool to see.

We walked around River Street and ended up going through JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside District, which has these awesome giant geodes and shiny dinosaur bones!

We were finally able to check-in, so we walked back to the hotel. The parents wanted to rest, so Alec and I went out for drinks because I saw that a popular coffeeshop called The Coffee Fox was selling Horchata Lattes and Horchatta. We also tried their goat cheese brownie, which was also different but tasty.

After that, we walked around a bit before heading back for dinner. We wanted to go to Corleone's for dinner but found out that there was an hour and a half wait since we didn't have reservations. That's when we found out that most nice places needed reservations lol. We were getting estimated wait times for up to 2.5 hours whenever we called just because we didn't have reservations! Luckily, we decided to walk into a.Lure and see if they had spots available, and they did! The food was also really good! So very glad that we went lol.

Alec's mom wanted to go to Better Than Sex - A Dessert Restaurant for desserts afterwards, but we found out that there was an hour and a half wait there as well. Instead, we went to Lulu's Chocolate Bar, which was recommended by our waitress. The desserts weren't that bad! Alec and I shared the ice cream sundae (without the alcohol lol) and found out that it came in a bowl made of chocolate! How cool! But also, they did not skimp on the ice cream. We were stuffed after eating half of the bowl lol.

After that, we went back to the hotel with Alec's parents to get some snacks from their room. Since we were still stuffed, we decided to go out and walk around again to people watch until we were frozen lol.

When we got back to our room, we took a hot shower and played {THE AND} Dating Edition until we got sleepy. Alec and I were talking about getting this game after playing the friends edition with Archana a while ago, but I was surprised to find out that he had already bought it.

The next morning, we went to Little Duck Diner for breakfast. It was super aesthetic! Just look at their cups! And the portions were huge!

Then, we checked out of the hotel and drove back to Alec's parents' house. Alec's mom was having stomach issues, so we stopped to get some sandwiches from Jason's Deli before eating it at home. Then, Alec and I loaded up his car with plants his parents were giving him and drove home.

We were so exhausted by the time we got back that we only took in a couple of the bags, changed into our pj's, and napped for two hours on the couch lol.

All in all, this was a short but very busy trip!

Webnovel Review: Back to the Peak by Jué Jué

Title: Back to the Peak
Author: Jué Jué
Chapters: 167 chapters
Publication: 2014
Summary from Novel Updates:

Shi Qingyang, a commoner, had climbed up to be one of two strongest Rank 9 rad-energy fighters in whole country. However, he had focused too much on training strength when he was younger and dangerous flaws were hidden inside his body. Eventually, those he trusted betrayed him after a decisive battle. Then, his body collapsed and he turned into a waste, abandoned by fair-weather friends and loved ones.

After his death, Shi Qingyang opened his eyes again. He had returned to the year when his parents died. He vowed that he would never make the same mistakes again and he would never lightly forgive those who had harmed him. But now, his first and foremost task was to fill up his belly.

As for where to find food… In the past, he had refused the help of others because of his so-called pride. This time, he needed to hold on to the Cheng family gentleman who was a waste! At least, he wouldn’t be hungry like he had been in his previous life!

Obtaining food, exercise equipment, opportunities to become stronger, and finally, even a wife

3 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

I was surprised to find out that this by the same author as Stone Age Husband Raising Journal. These two books were completely different other than the fact that the main characters were completely doting and affectionate with each other lol.

I liked the concept in this book. After an apocalypse occurred, humans started becoming able to use radiation energy to fight back against mutated insects, animals, and plants. Not only does rad-energy play an important role, medicine and potions are equally important, so both main characters are able to utilize their strengths together.

The slow-burn romance and found family tropes were also nice! The grandpa was also a nice comedic effect lol.

The eventual explanation about the reason for the apocalypse was also unexpected and interesting. I definitely recommend this for anyone who wants to read a post-apocalyptic world that DOESN'T involve zombies.

Weekly Haul 146

Before she moved out, Archana had me help her sort out what books to keep and give away. She completely forgot that she hid some books to give me later, so I accidentally found them first lol. Really appreciate them though! I know she's excited about my new relationship and how well we communicate lol.

The Couple's Book by The School of Life

Eight Dates: Essential Conversations for a Lifetime of Love by John M. Gottman, Julie Schwartz Gottman, Doug Abrams & Rachel Carlton Abrams
