Mini Reviews: Mr. Melancholy Wants to Live a Peaceful Life, Who Dares Slander My Senior Brother, The Reborn Otaku’s Code of Practice for the Apocalypse

Title: Mr. Melancholy Wants to Live a Peaceful Life
Author: Cyan Wings
Chapters: 122 chapters + 3 extras
Publication: 2020
Summary from Novel Updates:

Yu Hua loses his job, and the weight of the household falls on the shoulders of his partner, You Zhengping.

His husband is a temporary employee at the subdistrict office, with a monthly salary of only 2500; this troubles Yu Hua exceedingly.

You Zhengping is secretly engaged in the work of protecting the world from Destroyers, with a rather liberal subsidy.

You Zhengping spends all day fretting: how can he tell Yu Hua that he has a few million in private savings without giving anything away?

Right up until the day that You Zhengping receives a notice that a power great enough to destroy the world has appeared in his home.

Worried that something will happen to Yu Hua, an ordinary person, You Zhengping hurries home with his team. Once through the door, he sees a peaceful home, Yu Hua wearing an apron, a lifted frying pan in his hand, and a fish, golden on both sides and its aroma wafting around, frying in the pan.

Seeing You Zhengping, Yu Hua puts the frying pan on the switched-off electric stove and wipes his hands on his apron. “I wanted to save on the electricity bill.”

You Zhengping: …

The entire world’s most awesome Destroyer is his husband.

5 STARS - I LOVED IT

MY REVIEW:

Do not underestimate a man's level of pettiness! The amount of hell Yu Hua raised over one (1) pair of pants was awe-inspiring and dumbfoundedly hilarious lmao.

I also loved the author's notes at the end of most chapters. Too funny!

The comedy in here was pure gold. The difference people acted before and after knowing the truth, the more they dug their own graves before finding out the truth, the way they watched their life flash before their eyes after knowing the truth, the way they watched and tried to prevent other people from unknowingly digging their own graves, and the way people obliviously skirted death had me laughing my head off throughout the entire novel.

This was such a fun read. :) There's action, romance, sweet misunderstandings, and pure comedy to keep you entertained throughout with a different spin on transmigrators and systems.

Title: Who Dares Slander My Senior Brother
Author: 古玉闻香
Chapters: 88 chapters + 4 extras
Publication: 2015
Summary from Novel Updates:

Transmigrating into a novel one morning, Wen Jing arrived at the side of the one he worshiped and admired the most, becoming a loyal hound that was willing to go through fire and water for his senior brother.

Even the most arrogant cultivator said: “There is no one in this world who can enter my eyes, but only Jun YanZhi is truly noble.”

Wen Jing grew up alongside his senior brother, idolizing his senior brother beyond all means.

Unfortunately, he was ignorant, and as for this novel, he had only read half of it.

Midway through the storyline, he finally realized that things didn’t seem to be the way he thought they were.

Wen Jing: “Last night, Senior brother infiltrated Master’s abode. Master, please take heed.”

His master: “Nonsense! Your master was inside the abode all night last night, and did not see anyone else.”

Wen Jing: “Last night, Senior brother left on his own without permission to meet someone. Martial Uncle, please thoroughly investigate.”

His martial uncle: “Nonsense! Last night your senior brother and I were drinking and chatting merrily, all the way until morning.”

Wen Jing: “Last night, Senior brother was improper towards me……”

His senior sister: “Nonsense! How can your senior brother possibly do that kind of thing? Don’t tell me you’ve long held those kind of intentions towards him, and unable to obtain what you wanted, you’re now framing him?”

Many years later.

Wen Jing: “There’s this evil brute, specializing in using his top-notch, exquisite looks and elegant disposition to fool people, and everyone is in the midst of danger while not even aware of it themselves.”

Jun YanZhi: “If it wasn’t for you, that evil brute would most likely still be struggling in pain and suffering.”

3.5 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

After reading the title and description, I thought this would be a comedy BL cultivation novel similar to The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System and Every Day the Protagonist Wants to Capture Me

I was wrong. I was very wrong.

This book was more about angst and mystery due to all of the misunderstandings between main characters and what happened in the past.

However, if you like yandere, black-bellied male leads like The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System and Every Day the Protagonist Wants to Capture Me, you'll probably like this book.

3.5 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

I think this is the first zombie apocalypse slice of life novel I've ever read. I really liked it!

The translator MTL the novel, so some parts were a little confusing, but overall, it was pretty entertaining reading about how Luo Xun and his team slowly but surely created a peaceful home environment during an apocalypse.

Because I'm used to reading zombie apocalyptic novels that's more focused on leveling up and constant action, this novel was a nice change of pace. Zombie evolution and politics on base affects them but only on the fringes instead of being the main focus like most books in this genre. This book focused more on farming and getting materials to support their base.

The ending was a little rushed and abrupt. I would have liked a few extras that talked more about the future.
