Mini Review: Secrets and Shadows (13 to Life #2), The Naughty List (The Naughty List #1), The Returners

Title: Secrets and Shadows (13 to Life #2)
Author: Shannon Delany
Pages: 320
Publication: February 15, 2011
Publisher: St. Martin's Press
Summary taken from goodreads:
Nothing's simple when you run with werewolves. Jess Gillmansen thinks she's seen it all but her eyes are about to be opened to even more danger and a reality far more paranormal than she's suspected. With Jess's realization that the Rusakovas' mother is still alive and imprisoned, the group's choices become harder and trust more important. Lines are drawn and relationships change as the broken Rusakova family struggles to reunite long enough to free their mother and people who Jess always just took to be normal people show themselves to be much, much more.
2 STARS - IT WAS OKAY

MY REVIEW:

The first third of the book was too much like New Moon for my liking, although Jess was slightly redeemed since she actually tried to get over him--if only for a while--instead of doing stupid suicidal stunts like Bella did.

It got a little better as the book progressed since there was a lot more drama and secrets revealed, but I still can't really seem to bring myself to care about this series.

Also, one thing that really irritated me was the fact that Jess didn't know what imprinting meant. I mean, seriously, how could she not figure that out when she's a Twilight fan--when she alluded to Twilight twice in the book!

Title: The Naughty List (The Naughty List #1)
Author: Suzanne Young
Pages: 272
Publication: February 4, 2010
Publisher: Razorbill
Summary taken from goodreads:
As if being a purrfect cheerleader isn't enough responsibility! Tessa Crimson's the sweet and spunky leader of the SOS (Society of Smitten Kittens), a cheer squad-turned-spy society dedicated to bringing dastardly boyfriends to justice, one cheater at a time. Boyfriend-busting wouldn't be so bad . . . except that so far, every suspect on the Naughty List has been proven 100% guilty!
When Tessa's own boyfriend shows up on the List, she turns her sleuthing skills on him. Is Aiden just as naughty as all the rest, or will Tessa's sneaky ways end in catastrophe?
The Naughty List. Is your boyfriend on it?
3 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

Didn't expect everything to culminate into that ending.

And Tessa... she was not the type of main character I was expecting to read about either, even though I knew that she was a cheerleader. However, watching her character growth was really interesting, especially once you found out the reasons why she was so perky and tried so hard to be perfect.

Title: The Returners
Author: Gemma Malley
Pages: 252
Publication: March 2, 2010
Publisher: Bloomsbury
Summary taken from goodreads:
Will Hodge is being followed by people who insist they know him, though he does not remember them, and his terrifying dreams have begun spilling over from night-time into day. He is also a witness in a murder trial and is coping with the death of his mother. Life couldn't get much more difficult. Or could it?
Slowly, Will discovers that his past is not all that he thought it was, and the people following him aren't really strangers. They are Returners, and they have an important message about some truths Will has forgotten - terrible truths he may wish he had never known...
3 STARS - I LIKED IT ENOUGH

MY REVIEW:

It started off interesting, but then it became boring for a while, and I wasn't sure if I wanted to continue the book. After some time, it became interesting again as Will finally stopped trying to run away from his dreams and their meaning.
