Some Movie News

Fox 2000 has hired Brian Percival (Downton Abbey) to direct the film version of Marcus Zusak's novel The Book Thief, from a script by Michael Petroni, Deadline.com reported. Karen Rosenfelt (Twilight Saga) is producing and a summer production start is planned. 

I read the book a few summers ago and really liked it. I can't wait to see how they'll portray Death in the movie.

I’ve just had the opportunity to see the finished film of The Hunger Games. I’m really happy with how it turned out. I feel like the book and the film are individual yet complementary pieces that enhance one another. The film opens up the world beyond Katniss’ point of view, allowing the audience access to the happenings of places like the Hunger Games control room and President Snow’s rose garden, thereby adding a new dimension to the story. 

Director Gary Ross has created an adaptation that is faithful in both narrative and theme, but he’s also brought a rich and powerful vision of Panem, its brutality and excesses, to the film as well. His world building’s fantastic, whether it be the Seam or the Capitol. It’s amazing to see things that are suggested in the book fully developed and so brilliantly realized through the artistry of the designers. 

And, my God, the actors. The cast, led by the extraordinary Jennifer Lawrence, is absolutely wonderful across the board. It’s such a pleasure to see how they’ve embodied the characters and brought them to life. 

So I’d like to sincerely thank all the many people who devoted their time and talents to the film, especially producers Nina Jacobson and Jon Kilik, and the excellent teams at Color Force, Larger Than Life, and Lionsgate.

Suzanne Collins

Suzanne Collins wrote the screenplay of the movie, so I knew that the movie wouldn't be too far from the book, and now that she's written her approval after watching the movie, I definitely can't wait to see it myself!

I recently found out that Kristen Stewart was going to be (I think) the main female lead in Jack Keruoac's "On the Road" movie adaption, which makes me sad. I don't really think that she's that great of an actress, and I've been really excited about this movie. Ever since I read about the book in Jody Gehrman's Triple Shot Bettys in Love, I've been meaning to read the book, but once I found out that a movie was coming out, I figured I'd give it a shot before reading it. 

Now, I'm not so sure. :\ 

I'll most likely still watch the movie, though, since I found out that Kirsten Dunst is also in it, and I like her, lol.


(I'm not going to mention The Hunger Games because it's being advertised everywhere, which is awesomesauce. XD)
