4 STARS - I REALLY LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

This book is what I'm looking for in paranormal books/series: an interesting, new twist on an overused genre, likeable protagonists, a gripping plot with enough action to keep me on the edge of my seat, no stupid/pointless love triangle, romance with just the right amount of tension (and no stupid choices made because they were in luuurve), an engaging writing style, and no huge cliffhanger purposely made for you to wait forever for the next book to come out.

I can't give the book five stars because it was still lacking something. You know, a certain something that makes the book so amazing that you want to reread it over and over again. Nevertheless, the book was enjoyable enough for me to anticipate its sequel.

Title: S.L.H (Stray Love Hearts) vol. 4
Author: Aya Shouoto
Pages: 196
Publisher: MediaWorks
Summary taken from goodreads:
On the eve of her sixteenth birthday, Kozue Hiyoki is visited in her dreams by a man who steals her heart- literally! Determined to find him and retrieve her stolen heart, Hiyoki, with the color of the man’s hair and the tattoo on his chest as her only leads, enrolls in the S-Hall dormitories of St. Nazareth Academy, but quickly realizes that its residents are not at all like she expected… For starters, they’re all guys!
There, Hiyoki soon discovers that she has the ability to look inside her dorm-mates’ dreams, which may be the key to uncovering the identity of the thief who stole her heart…. But perhaps her biggest challenge is that most of the guys won’t let Hiyoki into their rooms, much less their hearts!

3 STARS - I LIKED IT

MY REVIEW:

Random thoughts that I had while reading this:

-So this is what children of the rich and elite do? Play at a "legal" casino on a cruise ship because it's totally okay to do that if they don't use money?

-Also, the main character is still pretty much a Mary Sue. But she's not as annoying as most that I've read, so I don't really mind her. And she actually stands up for herself for once! O__O

-On a happier note, the art improved even more since the first volume, and the plot isn't that unbelievable sounding now that you've grown used to the idea...

-The bromance! Ren's hatred for the president! I like it, lol.

Title: Darkness Becomes Her (Gods & Monsters, #1)
Author: Kelly Keaton
Pages: 320
Publication: January 1, 2011
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Summary taken from goodreads:
Ari can’t help feeling lost and alone. With teal eyes and freakish silver hair that can’t be changed or destroyed, Ari has always stood out. And after growing up in foster care, she longs for some understanding of where she came from and who she is.
Her search for answers uncovers just one message from her long dead mother: Run. Ari can sense that someone, or something, is getting closer than they should. But it’s impossible to protect herself when she doesn’t know what she’s running from or why she is being pursued.
She knows only one thing: she must return to her birthplace of New 2, the lush rebuilt city of New Orleans. Upon arriving, she discovers that New 2 is very...different. Here, Ari is seemingly normal. But every creature she encounters, no matter how deadly or horrifying, is afraid of her.
Ari won’t stop until she knows why. But some truths are too haunting, too terrifying, to ever be revealed.
2.5 STARS - IT WAS OKAY

MY REVIEW:

I became really tired of Ari's I can't trust anyone attitude early in the book. I mean, I can see where she came from, being shipped from foster home to foster home as she grew up, but still, it became annoying pretty fast.

It wasn't until the last 50 or so pages of the book did it actually become interesting after you finally find out what Ari is, but even so, I rolled my eyes so many times while reading this book in the beginning (I was debating on just dropping it altogether, but I was already half-way through and didn't want all of my effort to go to waste), I'm still not sure if I want to read the sequel.

But I do have to give props to the author for creating a somewhat believable plot that involved both Greek mythology and paranormal creatures.
