Top Ten Books I Just Had to Buy...

This is an old topic that The Broke and the Bookish did earlier this year in their meme called Top Ten Tuesday.

The topic that I wanted to do was called Top Ten Books I Just Had to Buy But Are Still Sitting on My Shelf. Since I have a bazillion books that apply to that topic, I thought I'd split it into two topics and explain my reason afterwords. So, without further ado...

Top Ten Books I Just Had to Buy But Are Still Sitting on My Shelf (Series)
  1. Unearthly by Cynthia Hand
  2. Across the Universe by Beth Revis
  3. Nightshade by Andrea Cremer
  4. Tiger's Curse by Colleen Houck
  5. Personal Demons by Lisa Desrochers
  6. Matched by Ally Condie
  7. Paranormalcy by Kiersten White
  8. Mistwood by Leah Cypess
  9. Knightley Academy by Violet Haberdasher
  10. Infinity by Sherrilyn Kenyon

As you can see, these are all the first books in a series that have recently come out. Even though I've heard great reviews for all of these books, I still haven't read them. A main reason why I still haven't read them [other than for not having the time to since I never have the time to read these days anyway] is the fact that they're the first in a series.

I hate reading a great book in a series only to be left in a huge cliffhanger at the end and having to wait another 9-12 months for the next book to be released. Plus, by that time, I'll have even more books to read and other series to catch up on that I'll keep on putting off reading the book since I don't have the time to go back and try to remember what happened since I forgot everything but the basic plot of the first book by that time. And I'm the type of person who likes to remember everything that happened in the previous books to catch all of the little clues and hints in the latest book in the series.

I'm picky like that. :P

That's why I still haven't read Mockingjay yet. I zoomed through The Hunger Games and Catching Fire when they both came out, and I absolutely loved them [the former just a little bit more than the latter]. And since Mockingjay is the last in the trilogy, I want to go back and reread the first two books since I devoured them so quickly, and then savor the last book while trying not to cry since the trilogy is finally over.

Anyway, I plan on rectifying this sometime during the summer, or hopefully by the end of the school year. :D

Back to the subject, I usually don't read the first book in a series until at least another volume is released or near to being released so that I don't have to wait so long and forget everything in between. Seeing how big my TBR piles are, I usually don't have a problem with waiting now.

So, on to my next list. :)

Top Ten Books I Just Had to Buy But Are Still Sitting on My Shelf (Stand Alone Titles)
  1. Fixing Delilah Sarah Ockler
  2. Just One Wish by Janette Rallison
  3. Winter Longing by Tricia Mills
  4. For the Win by Cory Doctorow
  5. Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta
  6. Two Moon Princess by Carman Ferreiro-Esteban
  7. No and Me by Dalphine de Vigan
  8. Impossible by Nancy Werlin
  9. Voices of Dragons by Carrie Vaughn
  10. Dirty Little Secrets by C.J. Omololu

I think the main reason why I haven't read these is just because I didn't feel in the mood to read them whenever it's time to choose a new book to read. I usually have a pile of books on my bed headboard to choose from, and none of those books have ever landed in there, so I don't see them and therefore don't think about reading them. And I just randomly add books to the pile on my headboard when the it gets low, and then I choose a book from the pile that strikes my fancy at the time.

Honestly, I could have had my lists to be Top 20/40/60/80 Books I Just Had to Buy But Are Still Sitting on My Shelf, but that required too much work, and you know how lazy I am. :P

So yeah, here's to hoping that I read all 20 books eventually! :D

Laters~
