My Review:
Carlos Ruiz Zafon's storytelling is impeccable.
Like his other book, The Prince of Mist, Zafon's writing style is simple, engaging, and written in such a way that easily creates a movie in the your head from the second you read the first page.
The mystery in the book moves the plot around in a sufficient enough pace with a few surprises and twists thrown in towards the climax, and the characters were well written and thought out.
I'd give this book a four stars if it appealed to me more. While I was easily sucked into the story whenever I picked the book up, it didn't take much effort for me to close the book to go and do something else.
However, I think the reason why it didn't appeal to me that much is the fact that it isn't the type of book I'd usually pick up. And also possibly from the fact that the book's audience would be better suited for middle grade or young teens not interested in the typical YA genre.
