MY REVIEW: 

With the last volume being about Bell and his group of friends' growth, Bell constantly being paralyzed with shock and indecision in this volume started growing on my nerves. When he is passive, he is SUPER passive until something happens (usually to his friends) to finally switch him into being an active participant. This is when he shines at his best, but boy, does it take a while for him to get there.

MY REVIEW: 

I loved how smart but dense Jiang Xunyi was to Yun Xie's obvious feelings. Everyone else could tell his feelings except for Jiang Xunyi!

There's a lot of misunderstandings between the two, but that doesn't stop them from still caring for each other, which was one of the reasons I was able to keep going through some of the slower parts of the book.

• A huge cast of unique and often hilarious animals (LOVE the eldest sister spiders and big boss ants) 
• Kickass female characters

• Exciting and ingenious battles
• World-building
• Slow burn romance that Qi Le never intended to happen lmao
• Cute and funny extras. I wish there were more about Qi Ning!

I started watching a lot of great anime recently and wanted to share my thoughts!

CURRENTLY WATCHING:

BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense

I was so excited when I found out that a second season was coming out this year! I waited a month before rewatching the first season and starting the new season afterwards, so that I wouldn’t have to wait every week to binge watch it with Alec lol.

I love how this anime doesn’t take itself seriously. No one is surprised by Maple’s crazy OP skills as time goes on. It’s just another one of her quirks lol. I also love how the laidback the show is. It just focuses on everyone exploring and leveling up in the game. There aren't any edgy schemes or intense rivalry. The players are having fun with each other and their friends from other guilds.

Play It Cool, Guys

These are 10 minute episodes about four clumsy but handsome guys of different ages. I love how they’re so relatable like playing music on your phone only to realize that your headphone wasn’t fully plugged in or misplacing your keys only to find them in your pocket lol. There are so many hilarious moments that had me cracking up, and the different ways the guys handle their embarrassment is also funny. Definitely a lighthearted, quick anime to watch in your spare time.

Chillin' in My 30s after Getting Fired from the Demon King's Army

I didn’t really have any expectations when I started this anime. I was just interested in a protagonist in his thirties, since I’m about to hit that age range lol. But wow! I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the anime so far! Because Dariel IS in his thirties and has spent almost his entire life in the demon army, he’s mature, smart, and capable! He’s not a chuunbiyo who thinks he’s a special snowflake. He was briefly confused about life because he just lost his job and home, but once he found his place again, he was firm and showed grace to the people who were with him in both his past and present.

I also want to point out (I’m sure everyone’s mentioned this already lol) about the romance! Dariel and Malika do not mess around! There was no endless misunderstandings or waffling about! There’s no pointless harems (although other women and men do become flustered by Dariel because he’s a rizzmaster lmao), and Dariel knows what he wants once he admits his feelings.

Can’t forget to mention how much I loved how extremely protective Malika is about other people looking down on Dariel just because he downplays his strengths in public. I’m sure she could defeat the demon king if it ever disrespected Dariel in front of her.

Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill

Lol I’m still chuckling at Mukouda’s situation. He was accidentally summoned to another world to fight against the kingdom’s enemies in order to go back home. Instead, he’s wary about the royals and takes their hush money to leave the hero party to become a nobody since his Online Shopping skill is deemed useless by them.

Then, he goes around winning people over with his cooking using items from Online Shopping, including his first familiar, Fel, a legendary fenrir that’s basically maxed out in stats. Mukouda keeps on forgetting Fels amazing status in the world because he’s basically just a glutton whenever they’re together lmao. I love their antics!

I’m also hungry whenever I watch an episode, because everything Mukouda cooks or buys from his store looks SO TASTY. Makes me have the munchies lol.

FINISHED: 

Tower of God

Alec and I had SO MANY QUESTIONS about this anime. You're just thrown into the plot with little explanations other than that the tower will grant you everything that you want. There's not much explanations about aspects of the tower, and when there were, it was still confusing??? I was tempted to read the webtoon it was based on afterwards, but the art style really threw me off. AND IT ALSO DIDN'T HAVE MANY EXPLANATIONS EITHER. 

I heard that a second season is coming out sometime this year. I'll probably watch it because even though I had so many questions, I still enjoyed the show and watching how Bam and his team survived each test. 

FEB: Friends, Solids, Car Problems, Patient 0

February was pretty short mainly because our whole house was sick for most of the month lol. I’ll get into that soon. But first, we hungout with Krista and Erick the first Saturday of the year!

Because they kept on saying that they were going to come up to visit, we finally set up a date and met up that day! They drove up in the morning to avoid most traffic. After touring the house and Luna ate second breakfast, we headed out to 9292 Shabu for brunch, since Krista wanted to try shabu. We wanted to take them to 9292 because they also have a Kbbq option, so we could have the best of both worlds lol.

Afterwards, we went to Costco for groceries. It was surprisingly packed. There were too many impatient people :/

After that, we went to Snowflake Tea House to rest and get dessert. We shared tea, a honey toast, and a condensed milk snowflake with strawberries. Since Sweet Hut was in the same plaza, we walked over to get pastries for Krista and Erick to bring home.

Then, we finally went home to chill. We played Smash Bros and Overcooked on the Switch in the theater room while Luna finally warmed up to Krista and was okay with her holding her lol. Poor Erick, she kept crying whenever he held her lmao. We ordered pizza for dinner before they left to drive home.

Luna also started eating solids for the first time. She had baby oatmeal as her first solid meal and was very confused about chewing and swallowing lol. But we quickly learned that she is a fruit girl! She really likes pears, that's for sure lol.

I also had car issues earlier in the month. I left to go home early from the office and ended up running over something on the highway that warped my splash guard underneath my car. I called for a tow truck and moved my car to a nearby YMCA parking lot for easier access. Alec met up with me while waiting, and we ended up waiting for FIVE or SIX hours. We got home around 10! It was ridiculous!

My car was towed to the Acura dealership nearby, and they were able to replace my splash guard in a few days, so that was great. They also did an inspection of my car and saw that I had a lot of maintenance issues like needing new brake pads and filters. Luckily, Alec knew how to do everything except aligning my tires, so I just ordered the parts needed and had it shipped to his house so he could work on my car the next time I came over while the dealership did the alignment.

But yeah, the car incident happened the day Luna started daycare, so I was super upset to miss seeing her all day lol.

She started off three days a week, and it was tough for all of us to go from seeing her all day to not seeing her for most of the day. And apparently, it was tough for her immune system too. She came back after her first week from daycare with a stomach virus (and possible cold) and spread it to us over the weekend.

First, she kept spitting up after every time she ate. Then, a few days later in the afternoon, Kyle started throwing up. I was at Alec’s house at the time and was fine. However, I ended up puking in my car driving home that night. And Shelle started throwing up an hour before I got home. We were a literal mess that night. Sunday was slightly better, but they asked Kyle’s mom to come over to help take care of Luna while the rest of us were recovering. We all took Monday off as well since we still had sensitive stomachs.

Luna had already recovered from her stomach virus since Sunday (figures patient 0 would be okay so soon lol), but it seemed that she had a cold because she was coughing and had a constant runny nose. That soon spread to us. I didn’t go into the office for the rest of the month because I had such bad congestion and coughing.

Lol Alec stopped by our house one Saturday to drop off provisions for us because we were so pitiful. He made soup for us and brought a lot of cough drops and other stuff lol.

So yeah, February was a rough but short month.

MY REVIEW: 

This was so good! I loved Shen Jin the more and more I got to know him! He's so precious and proud and defensive! Watching him slowly put away his thorns around Qiankun was so sweet and satisfying. And reading all of Qiankun's antics was also sweet and hilarious. The sibling love and family love and support were also great.

MY REVIEW: 

This is similar to the author's previous work The Best Zhuang Yan in the World where it stars a not super gorgeous but pretty enough female lead with a great personality but low self-esteem in relationships and a male lead who has liked her for a long time. There were a lot of misunderstandings from their past that was slowly uncovered throughout their time together after they reconnected again in the present. So if you liked The Best Zhuang Yan in the World, you'll probably like Wen Qiao in My Arms and all of the similar emotions the author evokes in you like I did. :)

MY REVIEW: 

This is similar to My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! where the female lead realizes that she's a villainess who will have a bad ending if she continues to follow the storyline. Luckily, they both realize this at a young age and so try to change their fate early on, which inevitably makes the male leads fall for them instead. 

The main difference is that this series seems light and fluffy on the bright side but is leaning towards some yandere characters on the dark side. The art is pretty, and Mystia is pretty Mary Sue, however, I'm still interested in seeing just how yandere these other characters will become and just how dense Mystia is to everyone's feelings lol. I think the plot will get pretty interesting once they're finished going over all of the backstories.

JAN: New Year's, Solids, Hiking, Pizza Party, Friends, Baking, Baby Showers

The new year started off with making burnt basque cheesecake! Well, Shelle and Alec made it while I read webnovels in the background lol. Since we had a lot of baking matcha, they decided to turn it into a matcha burnt basque cheesecake. Alec also made a blueberry compote to go with it, and it was AMAZING!

The parents also came up to celebrate new year’s and mom’s birthday, so they got to witness Luna’s first time eating solids. She took baby oatmeal pretty well!

That weekend, I drove down to Alec’s house, and we went to Reynolds Nature Preserve for a hike on Saturday morning. We did two laps, since it was pretty short. The lake was pretty!

Then, we went to Quickly for bubble tea and snacks afterwards because treat yoself! :D

Afterwards, we went back home and started preparing for the pizza party later that night! For Christmas, Alec had asked for a lot of pizza making stuff so that he could make homemade pizzas like we used to at his parents house. Now, he finally had everything to throw a pizza party with some of his friends!

It was great! There were lots of different types of pizzas made because we made it bring-your-own-toppings, so there were a lot of variations lol. This was the topping station at the beginning before everyone came. Soon, it became crowded with toppings, and I forgot to take a pic lol.

Here’s my margherita (with a twist) pizza lol.

There were leftover dough, so Alec ended up making a super deep dish pizza a few days later lmao. It was THICK.

Two weeks later, Alec and I drove down to Warner Robins to celebrate his goddaughter’s 2nd birthday. We were actually pretty late, but that was fine, because there were so many kids there to celebrate with her lol.

Because we were planning on being in town that day, I called up Krista to see if they were free that night for dinner, since we hadn’t seen each other in a while. They were free, so we drove straight to their house after the party was over!

It was great catching up with them. Because we weren’t hungry yet, and because it was Tet, Chinese New Years, we went to two Asian grocery stores in town to see if they had any mooncakes. They didn’t, so we got a lot of snacks instead lol.

We ended up deciding on Five Guys for dinner, but made our orders to go because there was a large church bus full of high schoolers who basically took up the entire dining area by the time we ordered. That was a great idea anyway, because we basically spent the entire night just talking and catching up and talking about our family issues. It was a super long therapy session/podcast lmao.

I think Alec and I left their house around 1am. It was a difficult drive back home since it was an hour and a half drive. We definitely felt old because Alec and I had to switch drivers halfway through the ride because he was getting too sleepy to drive. Made me remember the times when we drove home after midnight in college and how we were totally fine the next day. Not anymore lol!

However, the next day was a baking day! Alec wanted to make ube and sweet potato mochi now that he found ube extract at the Asian store yesterday. He also wanted to make milk bread and this other fried ube glutinous rice thing that his mom used to make every Chinese New Year.

Everything turned out okay! There was a lot of experimenting and sampling in the end lol. The fried mochi ended up looking like a Korean pancake lol. We mixed it up and had some with mozzarella filling and others with only black sesame seeds on the outside. The sesame ones turned out a bit bland, but it wasn’t bad.

The milk bread turned out really nice! It smelt so good baking in the oven!

The next weekend, my parents came up to visit one last time before they went on vacation. They were going to Vietnam, Thailand, and Hong Kong with some of their friends for 5-6 weeks, so they wanted to get their Luna cuddles in again before they left lol.

Alec and I also went to our college friend’s baby shower that Saturday. It was really nice! Apparently, it was held at the place they originally wanted to have their wedding at but didn’t because of the pandemic. Since they couldn’t get their deposit back, they decided to have their baby shower there instead lol.

All in all, January was a busy month, especially compared to February! I’ll get more into that soon lol.

4 STARS - I REALLY LIKED IT

MY REVIEW: 

At the beginning, Yan Shu, the foodie, described the palace food so deliciously that I was always craving snacks when I read this book! But as her relationship with the emperor got better, there was less focus on food (great for my stomach lol) and more focus on their hilarious relationship and the crazy amount of dirty laundry revealed from the emperor's court officials and many big wigs from around the capital. 

As someone who loves hearing the tea, I greatly enjoyed eating melons with Yan Shu and the emperor lol. I also love Yan Shu's relationship with the Empress Dowager and her CP fan heart lmao. 

Very enjoyable read if you love reading about the absurd things people in power will do because of greed and lust.

MY REVIEW: 

Loved reading about a loving family. None of that family infighting and lots of doting support instead!

 The love interest's way of chasing his wife was also funny. He was shameless and smart lol.

I'm glad the book eventually focuses on the love lives of all of her sisters so that everyone could get their happy ending. The ending with her sisters was definitely unrealistic but funny.

The system gave Xia An an assisting NPC, Sheng Zhi Yan. This NPC is a huge boss in the novel. He possesses an outstanding appearance, body and financial resources. The system told her to use him to her heart's content. Xia An did use him to her heart's content. She brought the NPC to act as her partner in a dating variety show.

In the storyline, Sheng Zhi Yan loves her so much that he can't help himself in wooing her with love stretching thousands of miles. Xia An never expected that while they were acting, the whole world started to support their pair.

And the big boss' fake acting became real.

MY REVIEW: 

I loved this novel! Xia An and Sheng Zhi Yan were so cute and funny! I loved their tacit understanding and how Shen Zhi Yan was helpless to all of Xia An's playful schemes! 

Loved how Xia An slowly turned around her image from a despised love brain to a woman who focuses on career and love with someone who pampers her! I just wished the author talked a little about Xia An's life before she transmigrated. I want to know if she was always such a good actress lol.
