I started reading Dash & Lily's Book of Dares by David Levithan and Rachel Cohn a week ago and have yet to find the time to finish reading it. I'm not even sure if I'll have anytime to do anything but study and do my homework until after Thursday since I'm swamped with tests, homework, and a quiz.
Anyway, I wanted to read a light, quick contemporary book, but I was in for a surprise by how deep and meaningful the book was. This is my first David Levithan book, so I now know why everyone raves about his writing. It is pretty awesome. XD There are so many quotes in here that I like!
I really want to finish reading the book soon, but alas, I must read my textbooks. ;__;

29. An author you wish was more well-known.
Jandy Nelson is an awesome author. She's only written one book, The Sky is Everywhere, but it was one of the best books that I had read last year, and I can't wait to read whatever book she writes next.
The Sky is Everywhere was an amazing book. It was sad and funny and honest and endearing and full of great characters. I loved it and the messages that it conveyed, so I really couldn't believe how unknown this book was outside of the book-blogging community. I really hope more people will read it because it is totally worth it.

28. Favorite Book Boyfriend/Girlfriend.
My favorite book boyfriend has got to be Zachary Moore from the Jeri Smith-Ready's Shade trilogy. I mean, I loved Logan, too, but he had to become a ghost and yeah... Whereas Zachary was alive and attentive and awesome.
First of all, he's Scottish. That means that he has one smokin' hot accent to listen to whenever he opens his mouth.
Second, he's completely understanding. He knows when to give you space, and he knows how hard it is to deal with mourning over the loss of your ex-boyfriend.
Third, he's completely unashamed to wear a kilt. How many guys do you know will willingly wear a kilt. Not many.
And fourth, he's Zachary Moore. Enough said. XD

27. A book you want to like, but can’t get into for whatever reason.
When Beautiful Creatures first came out, I was so excited to read it. It sounded mysterious and awesome, and since I live in the South, I wanted to see how it was portrayed in the book. Plus, one of my friends had read it and really enjoyed it.
I eventually got a copy of the book and a its sequel before I started reading it. I think I was reading another book at the time, so Beautiful Creatures was put on the back-burner since it wasn't as interesting. Then, before I knew it, a few months had passed, and I couldn't bring myself to read the book since I was basically have to start back from the beginning to remember what happened since there were so many details in it that I forgot about.
And I think another factor for why I never finished it was because the book was pretty boring, the 100+ pages of it that I had read. Yeah, there were some interesting parts and characters, but the insta-love and weird things happening that weren't being explained made it confusing and somewhat boring. Plus, the book has over 500 pages, and I guess its daunting size also made me not want to finish it. Thick books tend to be slow in the beginning before getting to the really good parts, and I just didn't want to slough through all of that to get somewhere good.
Plus, I figured I'd just go watch the movie once it comes out to see if I'm ever interested in reading the series again.

26. You Judged a book by it's cover - and it was amazing.
I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga had an awesome title, an awesome summary, and an awesome cover. Then, when I read an ARC of the book, I found out that the book was equally awesome on the inside.
There was so much win in I Hunt Killers. The writing style was fantastic--it sucked you in immediately and kept you glued to the pages until the very end. The main character was amazingly real, charismatic and resourceful and honest about himself. The plot was ingenious--I mean, how many books have you read where your father was an infamous serial killer who taught you his trade while you were young? And the side characters were fleshed-out and equally awesome. What more can you ask for in a book?
I can't wait for the sequel! The twist in the end was like opening up Pandora's box; the series can go in so many awesomely different directions! April 2013 is too far away. D:

25. You Judged a book by it's cover - and it was awful.
I absolutely loved the cover of The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff, so I had to immediately buy the book as soon as it came out. Although it took me a year to finally get to reading the book, I still had extremely high hopes that the book would be all sorts of amazing since the cover and summary made it seem so.
It wasn't. At best, it was okay. The author tried to make everything spooky and mysterious so everything was so slow and vague in the beginning, that it was hard to get into the book. Then, I really didn't like the main character since he was always so scared and afraid to even admit to himself what he really was. It took him forever to finally do something, and by that time, I didn't even care if he died or not.
The book wasn't awful--it was just disappointing. That's all I can say.

24. Your favorite series.
I think my favorite series would have to be Tomorrow series by John Marsden and Vampire Knight series by Matsuri Hino.
Even though I've only read the first book in the Tomorrow series, I totally loved it. I even really liked the movie version of it too, and not only because they were all Australians, lol. :P I never had the time to go out and buy the rest of the series, but I really loved Tomorrow, When the War Began and recommend it to everyone.
The Vampire Knight series immediately hooked me from the beginning with the mystery of Yuki's situation and awesome art. The art only became better as the series progressed, and the tension and drama and action also became better and better. Not to mention, the characters really played a big part in keeping you coming back for more in every volume.
Both are awesome series. I definitely recommend them.
(I just realized that my favorite series are from out of the US, lol.)

Book Review: Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma
Title: Forbidden
Author: Tabitha Suzuma
Pages: 454
US Publication: June 28, 2011
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Summary taken from goodreads:
Author: Tabitha Suzuma

Summary taken from goodreads:
Seventeen-year-old Lochan and sixteen-year-old Maya have always felt more like friends than siblings. Together they have stepped in for their alcoholic, wayward mother to take care of their three younger siblings. As defacto parents to the little ones, Lochan and Maya have had to grow up fast. And the stress of their lives--and the way they understand each other so completely--has also also brought them closer than two siblings would ordinarily be. So close, in fact, that they have fallen in love. Their clandestine romance quickly blooms into deep, desperate love. They know their relationship is wrong and cannot possibly continue. And yet, they cannot stop what feels so incredibly right. As the novel careens toward an explosive and shocking finale, only one thing is certain: a love this devastating has no happy ending.
3.5 STARS - I REALLY LIKED IT
MY REVIEW:
Maybe if I had read the summary, I wouldn't have been so shocked at the ending. I knew that the book was about incest, but since I don't like reading a book's summary right before I read the book, I was completely unprepared for what happened at the end. Sure, I knew that there was an unlikely chance that everyone would come out with a happily ever after, but I still had an innocent hope that there was a chance that things would somehow work out after all.
Yeah...I was wrong. Tabitha Suzuma completely shattered any expectations that I had of this book, and she did it with such beautiful writing. I was hooked from the start, although it got became a bit too depressing and angsty for my liking near the middle, I still couldn't put the book down until I knew how it ended.
And the characters...wow, I sympathized with them so much. I can't even express all of the emotions I felt for them reading about their lives, how they got used to living without their mother being around and the secrets that they had to keep so that the social services wouldn't come around to break them apart.
I know that there are many people who would not read this book because of its topic and also because it includes sex, but if you're openminded, then I definitely reccommend reading this.

Don't take beds for granted.
So, I've been living in my shared apartment for a while now, and I like it enough. It's not what I'm used to but at the same time, it is--it's just not as new as my house. Like, one of the stove thinger isn't working and the carpet's really thin, and the walls are pretty thin so we can hear our neighbor's loud, obnoxious, thumping music. But I've grown used to it.
And I've grown used to climbing up a ladder to get to the top bunk of the bunk bed that I share with my sis. (I totally called dibs on the top bunk since I hate hitting my head trying to sit up on the bottom bunk, while my sis doesn't like sleeping on the top bunk since she thinks that she'll fall off the bed to her death, lol, so our bed situation worked out perfectly.) It took a while get used to having significantly less bed space than I'm accustomed to, but I've accepted it quickly and easily (I sleep curled up in a ball anyway.).
But then, last weekend, we went home to do our laundry and get last minute items, and I guess I was more tired than I thought or I just really missed my bed, because I slept in a lot longer than I was expecting. You see, for the past week, I've been waking up around eight in the morning regardless how late or early my classes have been, so I was expecting to wake up around that same time on Saturday. But I wake up and my clock tells me that it's already eleven o'clock, and I'm just lying in bed dazed because that could not be true.
But yeah, I saw this article on BuzzFeeds about ways to rethink your bed, and I'm just having this bed lust right now, lol. There are so many cool and awesome looking beds in there! Here are some of my favorites:
Maybe some day I can open my closet and be in Narnia instead of my bed. :D |
I don't like having lights on in my room when I go to sleep, but those lights are soo cool, lol. |
This appeals greatly to my bookworminess, lol. |
Now I really want to read and get a new bed. The dilemmas of being a poor college student, lol.
Edit: I wrote this post a couple of weeks ago and totally forgot about it. Figured it was better late or never to post it. :P The stove thinger works now. :D

20. The environment you most enjoy reading in.
I wish I could say that I love to read outside when the weather is so nice like it is now--sunny but with a light breeze--but I would be lying. I'm too lazy to go outside, find a comfortable spot to sit in that isn't crawling with bugs, and I would be distracted with my surroundings, especially if there's people walking by or cars driving by.
Generally, I like to read on my bed since I move around and lay on different pillows depending on my mood, lol. And because it's super comfy. :D
This isn't my bed; I'm never home to take a pic of it (although I think I'm going home this weekend...), and I don't consider the bed at my apartment to be a good equivalent since I hardly ever have time to read in it.
Today's seems like an awesome day to stay in bed and read right now since I stayed up until 2:40 this morning and have just finished my first class an hour ago. A nap sounds great right now. But guess where I am right now. The library. :P I wanted to study and do some of my Calc homework for a bit before going home and lollygagging, lol.
I don't know if I'll be able to though, since I have a computer right in front of me...

19. A book that you think is woefully underrated.
The few people who have read I'll Be There think that it is one of the absolute best books written. The book is always praised for the characters, the writing, the plot, the flow--everything. It's so awesome, and yet hardly anyone has heard of it other than by word-of-mouth it would seem.
I love this book to pieces. I really do hope that it gets more recognition like it deserves.

18. A book that you think is highly overrated.
I was so excited to read Nightshade when I first saw its cover and read its summary. Even before the book came out, a lot of bloggers that I follow had already reviewed the book from the ARCs that they were given, and they all said that they loved it, so I was even more excited to get my hands on the book and start reading it.
Then I read it, and I couldn't get over how contradicting Calla was as a main character, and I wasn't a huge fan of the love-triangle either. Maybe my expectations were too high because of all of the reviews that I had read or skimmed through, but I honestly don't think that it played that huge part of a role in my overall disappointment in the book.
Nightshade isn't horrible, but it isn't that great either. The sad part was the fact that I was more interested in the side plots of the story than the main plot.

17. A book you haven’t read and have no intention of ever reading.
Just...no. No. I refuse. I don't need to waste my time reading terrible porn when I can do that for free on the internet. I mean, this trilogy was first written as Twilight fanfiction. I can find so many better stories on FanFiction any day--with better smut scenes. :P
Plus, from all of the raging articles and posts about the Fifty Shades trilogy, I know that all of the characters are stupid and/or fucked up, that the trilogy inaccurately portrays BDSM, and that it will make any girl rage with the way Anastasia is treated.

16. 5 books I really really want to read and haven't had the chance for whatever reason.
Before I even heard about the book, I found Tahereh's blog and thought that she was one of the coolest, funniest bloggers out there. Her writing style was already unique, so when I found out that she was writing a book...of course I was going to read it.
I saw the movie last year and really liked it, and I've read countless reviews gushing that the book was even better than the movie, so I definitely wanted to read it.
The summery immediately hooked me in. I mean, trained assassin? Count me in!
I love Dystopian books, and I love how the book was created with different colors for the different narrators.
This book sounds so awesome! Every time I read the summary, I want to pick the book up and read it immediately. Unfortunately, the book is usually under a pile of other TBR books that I want to read, so it's hard to remember about it when I'm looking through my endless piles of books.
Even though I want to read so many books, I can't because of time restraint, which sucks. Being in college requires so much more work to do. Even though I have less classes, I generally have a lot of homework or studying to do, and when I'm not doing that or hanging out with friends, I really don't know where all of my time goes. :\
I'm trying to make time to read a least one book a week, but it's not really working out. :( I've really got to learn that time management thing everyone's always talking about. :P
15. A book you'd like to forget and read all over again so you can fall in love with it once more.
I read The Year of Secret Assignments in the 6th grade. It was the most hilarious, awesome book ever. I lent it to many friends who have also loved it, and I've reread it a few years ago and still loved it. I don't think I can ever stop loving this book.
14. A book you regret not having read sooner.
I bought Saving June last year and had been wanting to read it ever since, but other books and school and vacation just got all up in the way. :P Then, I received a copy of the book from HarperTeen for review, and I decided that it was a sign that I needed to read that book as fast as possible. So I did. And it was great.
I love Hannah's writing style! I can't wait to read her recently released book called Speechless. (The book looks so much prettier in person.)

My Summer Distractions
Even though my summer ended a few weeks ago with the start of college, I thought I would briefly talk about what I did over the summer that resulted in me basically blogging less.
Kpop happened.
Kpop happened.
Besides the vacations that I took with my family and the trip to Six Flags that I went with my friends, and reading books and fanfiction, I essentially spent the rest of the time being distracted by Korean idols and their awesome music and hilarious antics.
I got back into SHINee, then became interested in the hilarious Infinite boys, and then totally in love with B.A.P, all the while keeping track with the EXO boys. So yeah... it's all because of these adorkable guys that I was hardly blogging over the summer. Blame it on them! :P
But how can you scold a cutie holding a cute dog, lol? |
Argh... how is a guy that attractive? |
You can never go wrong putting guys in suits. :P |
And here's JYJ and Big Bang because they're also attractive mofos. XD
My first bias, oh how you've hardly changed (besides the hair :P). <3 td="td">3> |
And I so want to dye my hair either this blue or purple color. I can't decide! They both look so awesome! XD I just wonder what color my hair would turn after I washed for a month, lol. My purple/red lowlights turned pink after a while before turning this dark red color.
Also, that girl is so lucky to be standing next to Jaejoong!
So yeah...it's been ages since I've done a Kpop spam post, lol. I figured it was time to do one again. :P (Did I mention that I made a new Kpop fan friend in college?? Her name's Lauren. Taemin's her favorite, too. :D)
Now I've got to study for my Calc test tomorrow. D:
Later~
